The key to good co-ordination is playing whatever you play slow enough to be able to play it, and then getting comfortable with it there, then taking the speed up, in tiny increments, making sure that you're comfortable at each tempo before moving on. Finger exercises are only as valuable as the amount they appear in your playing - ie, not very much with most finger exercises. Practice 'music' at slow speeds, work on pieces, theory ideas, get sheet music - finger exercises just teach you to play strange patterns repeatedly. If you're in Primus, great, if not, don't bother... :o)
As for your question about playing in position, I'm not absolutely sure I understand it... can you clarify it a little?
good luck, and have fun!
