anyone use the ebtech Hum X?

I'm getting a lot of noise through my bass/rig lately and my amp does not have a ground lift. I'm either going to get a DI box or a Ebtech Hum X. Has anyone used a Hum X and does it work?

If this is the wrong forum for this go ahead and move it.

I have a house that has ungrounded outlets in my practice area. I had a bad ground problem (hum) and bought the wall wart type Hum X. It took 75% of the hum out of my signal...so not bad. I use it at gigs and its small easy to use but not cheap $60.00.

Also plus one to those little felt washers. Little more work, but really does the same thing.

Make sure they two chassis are not touching. Whichever method you use will not work if they touch.

what I did...

I bought a 600 ohm: 600 ohm audio coupling transformer

this one:

wired it to two jacks in a box...made sure that the grounds between the input and output was not connected....

for <$25 I have a galvanic isolator...works in those situations when even a ground-lift switch doesn't solve my issues (I explained this extensively in a thread some time back).

And cuts down on the danger of getting zapped. Any appreciable HF or LF loss going through that tranny? The ebtech hum eliminator (prepackaged stereo version of your box) has some big HF losses when used at instrument level. Line level, not so bad.

to the OP: if a ground loop is causing your problem, the Ebtech may well help / solve it. If it's not an issue with ground, then it likely won't help at all.

Can you post a recording of the noise or describe it more specifically? Is it a buzz or a hum? Kinda jagged sounding, or low and rich etc....

I certainly can't hear a difference..and 1dB insertion loss, too...which is really nothing...

I've tested this thing on instrument and line level...it's really more suited for line, and is how I use it (between my zoom and the amp, so that I don't get ground loop back from the amp, through the zoom into the F.O.H)...I use the zoom as a DI...

I've been using an EbTech HumEliminator (by Morely) box, which has worked well to isolate ground loop hum when running two combo amps in parallel thru a Whirlwind A/B/Y box.
