Looking For A Fun Old School Beach Car

I just moved to the beach and want to treat myself to a beater beach car.

I'm hoping for a fun car to drive around town on the weekends. My only criteria is that it be old school, under 10k, and relatively reliable. The 10k price limits it to only a few cars like a 70's Karman Ghia or an old Jeep.

I'm not really a car guy and this will be my first "toy" purchase in that area. I don't want any regrets by winding up with a mechanical nightmare. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions to point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Jeep YJ. You could easily find one with a 3 or 4 inch lift and 33" tires on it for well under your 10k limit.

Here you go. Just throw your surfboards in the back and you're good to go.

VW bus, especially a Westfalla, Squarebacks work too. A lot of my buds had those in high school. Bus is more practical though.

Hell, if were talking Volvos I'm selling my 2003 v70 for around that price range. I can fit all 12 of my boards inside, including my 9'0" longboard.

You can get these cars for much lower than his max price point. But yea, even a v70 would be a sweet car to tote boards in. Definitely not old school though.

Note: No matter what you buy to drive around on the beach, always...*always*...carry a sheet of plywood or siding material with you, and a bag of cheap clay cat litter. Even 4WD's get stuck. A simple sheet of plywood and a little bit of cat litter for your tires to get traction on will get you out of soft or wet sand very nicely!

Great. Not too practical for the boards though.
