Peavey VB-3

Anyone else anxious to try out one of these? I don't think I've ever played a bass amp powered by EL34s...

It looks like a spaceship! I think it's the most modern looking amp out there, Along with Trace Elliot. Nice to see that at least one company isn't trying to capture a vintage look.

Ok fine, Genz Benz... Mark Bass... They do it too.

Last I heard, a bunch shipped out to dealers - but were all recalled.
I doubt there was something so wrong enough that they all were needed back.

I've got to give a big plus to Peavey because they really drive to make sure everything is perfect on these before they hit the general market.

It's a new technology power support, and I'm sure many are going to scrutinize it closely.

Yeah, I feel like one exhibited a shut down problem or something similar during a stress test and peavey took them all back to make sure it wasn't across the board/fix it. Peavey QC can be seen by the thousands of bassists using 30+ year old peavey heads everyday.

Greetings from the North,

Yup....Gotta admit that Peavey has got me interested in their VB-3. The review in Bass Player Magazine reads well and it garnered the 'Editors Award'. It's been a while since I had an SVT and I do miss having a powerful all tube head. The idea of having one that only weighs 37 lbs and puts out 300 watts is intriguing. I've been sitting on the fence about a couple of other amps but I'm not gonna pull the trigger on anything until I check this out. And they're offering a 5 year warranty too, hmm....

If it is anything like the VB-2 then it will be a tone monster! I loved my VB-2 and stupidly sold it. The tone of EL34s was exactly what I was looking for.

How'd they get the weight down to 37lbs? Toroidal transformers? SMPS?

It is difficult to get anymore info. Including if this will actually be released (besides the rumor that some were shipped then recalled).
I wish the Peavey person who posts here would comment on this. These companies keep this stuff so close sometimes.
I like peavey stuff - have a Cirrus and have used their amps many times in the past. I have a definite interest in this tube amp.

It would be nice to hear Peavey's response about the VB3.

The VB-3 IS released. Artists are grabbing them as fast as they are built.

As for the recall...somebody accidentally sold one of my test prototypes to a store. When I found out (thanks TB!), I had it recalled.

I am impressed that they got that kind of tube power going on with so little weight. SMPS makes sense and is such an obvious way to do it nobody did it. I suppose you still have to have an output transformer, but a well executed toroidal output transformer could come in at a reasonable weight. I like that it was done with EL34s.

It using EL34's makes me wonder if you pry Lemmy away from his Marshall and convince him to be a Peavey endorsee. Not so out there as Michael Anthony jumped.

I think I will buy one of the first to make it to the stores when they do. It will be my first peavey amp in a while, but I have had several over the years. The last peavey amp I had was the GPS 3500; used it with a RBI into 4 15's. Great amp!
