Anybody know if the SX necks will easily retrofit an MIM Fender? I'm looking for a blocked & bound neck, and after this review, I think I'll save $200 and go with an SX neck of equal quality.

SX neck heel is wider than a Fender - not a fit without work.
Jim Mouradian may have skill and experience but when I dealt with him many years ago he was not trustworthy and ripped me off. Even though I lived close to his place of business for many years, I refused to give him my business.
My SX P-Bass looks nice but is neck heavy. Maybe I got one with a lighter than normal body but my old Squier did not have this problem (and it had a heavier body) nor have the Fenders that I have tried.
Peace,
S

Would it be a lot of work? Beyond shaving the neck a wee bit? I might go for it anyways. It's half the price of a MightyMite neck, which will likely require some adjusting to get it to fit as well.

My experience with SX necks vs Fender is that the neck heel on SX is a bit wider, and the neck is also taller by a little bit, so you might have to deepen the neck pocket on the body for it to work right. It's not that difficult to do, but if you go to put a Fender spec neck back on it later you'd have to shim it.

It's much easier to fit a Fender neck to a SX body. Check it out.. Color matched the headstock with some Duplicolor acrylic enamel...
I like the SX basses I've had, they are great for gigging.

Good to know. Thanks, guys. I think I might just go with the MightyMite neck. I'd really like to only fudge with the neck and not the body so that it can be restored in case some Fender fanatic comes in and wants it back to normal.

I guess I have to take your word for it, about Jim Mouradian. But I do feel that I have to say that I've known him for 25 years, and have always had the best dealings with him, and have never heard anything negative from anyone else, until reading your comment. (I'm saying this not to prop up my argument for SX basses, but to put in a good, fair word for Jim.)

Then, in July, I dropped it off with my all-time favorite luthier/repair guy, Jim Mouradian, who's a master but is about 3 hours from where I live.
I just got it back on Monday. Jim's first words: "This sets up like a $3000 bass."
Wow! You're set guy is Jim Mouradian? Wow! I do my own after not being able to find anyone who had'nt just left a state subsidized program that taught "Guitar Repair".
That being said? SX is a great alternative isn't it. All things aside about the economy and buying from China not the USA, but my money is pretty tight if I need to spend on an SX I do so confidently. I have 2 basses 1 guitar and assorted cases necks and parts i got from them. And would buy again.

I have an SX Blocked/bound neck on my 06 Mex-Jazz. Minimum work needed to mount it. As I recall I removed no wood, primarily the pickguard was too tight. BTW? That neck was the best thing ever happened to that J-bass. Also it was special "B stock" deal, had no nut, slot, cost me $19. plus shipping. Keep an eye on SX stuff like this comes by from time to time. Thanks Kurt.
