Fender Jazz Bass vs. SX (Essex) Jazz Bass - BLIND TEST !!!

OK - Well, this morning I decided to record a couple quick tracks comparing basses, and since these two seem to be "hotly contested", let's see if you can tell which is which !

Basses were recorded through an identical signal chain -
BASS ---> CABLE --->LINE 6 TONEPORT
All settings are kept the same as well. Also, the basses ALL use the same strings - D'Addario Chrome 45-100

Just for fun I also added a Precision Bass into the mix. You can guess which one that one is for bonus points !

Please excuse the sloppy playing - not much sleep, and tracks were recorded early in the morning.

So, which is the SX Bass ?

Blind Test.mp3

EDIT:

The following information is "added" to this first post since some people think I'm trying to "trick" them.

================================================== =================

As stated earlier, no "tricks" were involved.

Quote:
Same signal chain, both rosewood boards, alder bodies, stock except for strings (Chromes 45-100 on all basses) , Am Std Jazz vs SX Jazz, etc.

Quote:
The P Bass was a "throw in", but it is alder bodied, maple board with a SD Vintage P Pickup installed.
ALL my basses are set up properly, they all had the same strings, went through the exact same signal chain with the exact same settings, riffs where all recorded this morning, finger position is the same.

As I said, it is a "blind test", which to me means that as many variables as possible were eliminated so that you can compare the test items fairly.

wow, there ya go! Not much difference soloed and I bet less in a band setting. I liked #1 best followed by #2 and #3, but my guess is:

1 p bass
2 sx
3 fender jazz

edit- the second one sounds just like my sx (alder w/maple board) and I figured the P would soundbassier than the jazz - wrong!!!!!

But this tells me that most of our nitpicks don't matter all that much. All 3 sounded VERY similar and good. As long as the vibe is good between the player and the bass, that's what matters more.
