MXR Blue Box

Has anyone tried it on bass? I love the old school videogame sounds you can get out of it with a guitar

I haven't tried the Blue Box, but I'll recommend the Pollyanna in its place; The Pollyanna is basically a Blue Box on steriods with control over -2, -1, dry, and +1 octaves, as well as a tone control over the octaves. Same basic tone, but way more control and I'd say much more usable on bass. Great pedal! Tracks very well when fed 18v

the blue box doesn't perform very well on bass in my experience.

There are mods for it to make it more usable, but it's not a pedal that you'd be using all the time.
For noodling around on your own, it will be cool, but in a band setting, especially with distorted/OD'd g****rs, you won't stand out.

Big +1 maybe with some mods, but the stock pedal is obnoxious and hard to control. 2 octaves down, even on the higher strings, is pretty hard to track with any accuracy at all. Blue Box with bass = fail.

I was also interested in the pollyanna but I read around here that it doesn't track well on bass...can it handle pretty fast runs?

It takes some adjusting to, but you can do fairly fast runs, especially if using it with a filter, which covers up artifacts which are easily introduced into the signal. I always use a filter with it and the artifacts have never been an issue, but if you're using it by itself, then you might find the note tracking fine, but the little artifacts annoying (they may also just blend into the mix..). Its not as good as an OC-2, but when powered at 18v its pretty good- as good as any other square octaver like it will.
