Never going back

All I can say is wow! I purchased a pack of MTD stainless roundwounds after trying DR Hi-Beams, Marcus Miller Fat Beams, and Rotosounds. These strings make my j-bass growl! They just have this awesome tone, really crunch and kinda twangy, just how I like it. All around great strings. I would recommend these to anyone in a heartbeat.

Interesting. Are they round or hex core?

After 15 years on bass and pretty much all the strings available over here except for the whole DR range (tried lo-riders and hated them) I just bought a set of fat beams. And I'm not impressed. They're ok, but IMO there are better or atleast as good strings for half the price.. Maybe I gotta start looking for some place to order those MTD's.

I've been on the Hi-Beams for about a year now. Have been meaning to try the Dunlop mediums to heavy gauge. OP says they are rounds.

They are definitely rounds, I'll give an update on the life of these strings but so far i'm just floored. They growl and sound so amazing through my rig. Loving it!

MTD makes them, Michael Tobias Designs, you know that guy who makes those really sweet but expensive botique basses.

2 things to clarify:

1) MTD does not make these strings. They buy them from a string maker and sell them with their name on the package. Mike does not wind strings. FYI....Lakland, Carvin, Warwick, Fodera, Sadowsky, Spector, Ken Smith, Pedulla, etc do not make their strings either. They buy them and put their name on them.

2) You say they are definitely rounds, but are you talking about the outer wrap or the core? We were asking if the CORE was round or hex...not the outer wrap.

2 things to clarify:

1) I know Mike Tobias doesn't wind his own strings, I got a little confused in my response. I don't know which company does produce them for MTD and I don't care, they sound great.

2) Ease up on the tone there buddy, the package doesn't tell me if the CORE is round or hex.

Sorry, we just wanted to know who makes them for MTD and whether they had a round core or hex core. Sounds like you're not sure what you bought

I don't care what I bought, they sound amazing and are exactly what I was looking for, that's all that matters.

Cool. Well if you find out what the core is, and where they're made please let us know.

Please do not make statements like this unless you are certain that they are true. As a partner here at Fodera I can promise you that our strings are made by two wonderful people that have worked for us for many years and work ONLY for us. Our strings are not made by one of the big string makers with us merely slapping or names on them. They are 100% our own "recipe" and are available only through us and our dealers...

Here's a little update, I haven't found any info about the core of the string. I will say that after months of playing, these strings still sound amazing. They still sound very lively and have help up pretty nicely. Again, I would recommend trying these.
