hi... im trying to teach myself bass guitar and im having trouble with some aspects of Tab... i have the basics but im confused with the following... h / \ if you can help that would be GREAT !!!!! thanks for the help every one

Welcome to Talkbass. Although it doesn't say "Senior Member" under my name, I have been here for a while. I love this place and I hope you will too.

Before anyone else says it, tabs aren't very good. But they can sometimes be helpful. Still, I think you should learn note music instead.

Anyway, / means slide up the string. For example 3/8 would mean that you have to slide from the 3rd to the 8th fret.

\ means slide down.

h means 'hammer' the string (I think this is what it means anyway)
