just a quick note to let you know about the solo bass network -
http://www.solobassnetwork.org.uk - it's a web-site and mailing list all about people who play solo bass, or use bass in unconventional duos and bands that otherwise wouldn't get the coverage they deserve. On the site there's a mailing list that you can sign up to to get info about gigs, recordings, magazine articles and internet happenings featuring those bassists listed on the site.
You can also get involved by collecting information and e-mailing it to gigs@solobassnetwork.org.uk - send in info about new players, CDs, gigs in your area, magazine articles about solo bassists etc.
have a look at the site, and sign up for the list, and then take your friends to any gigs that are happening in your area! :o)
