Pros: Preamp, Distortion, and Noise gate
Cons: Has alot of mid built in.

This was my first distortion pedal. I use the preamp on it always, it's never turned off. As for the distortion i used to use it as a heavy distortion, but i recently picked up a big muff. so now i use it for a light distortion. Overall its a great pedal. Id definately recommend it.

Pros: Transparent channel switching, color switch works wonders for passive bass
Cons: color is always activated when on distortion channel

Got the display model discounted from GC.
DI works very well, I've played through 3 different PA's with perfect sound.
The eq really scoops the mids, when the color button is pressed it's 10x (adds a lot of bass). Perfect for that Rex Brown sound. Overall eq sounds great.
Switching channels / turning the pedal on/off has absolutely no pop or hiss, totally transparent. When on the distortion the color is automatically activated.
I am still impressed by the distortion channel, you can get everything from a slight fuzz to full blown chaotic overdrive.
The noise gate comes in handy for when you turn the gain way up to get that overdrive like sound, you can change the sensitivity 'trigger' level of the noise gate to tell it how long to sustain.
Lots of features. Very sturdy construction (except the battery terminal). Make sure to write down your settings, the knobs tend to get messed up when carrying it around.

Pros: excellent tone shaper
Cons: none

I bought this pedal some years ago when it first came out, the push buttons were still black (I notice that they are white now). This pedal is excellent. The color button is something I hardly can live without. It really puts my bass in the sweet spot. The distortion is good but not great. Had MXR added a separate EQ for the distortion, it would had been better. But, it's still good as it is, in my opinion. I have never used the DI function so far. I use it mainly to shape my tone and as my main drive (although I might get a fuzz pedal soon to take its function as my main drive).
Many people compare this unit to the sansamp DI. I personally prefer this one because it has the distortion on/off footswitch. I would highly recommend this pedal to anyone, but always try before you buy

Pros: excellent color button
Cons: same eq knob for clean and dirt

I got it when it first came out a few years back. Mine has black push buttons (color, phantom, gate) instead of whites. I don't know if there are any difference.
Anyway, IMHO this pedal is something I refuse to live without The color button really put my bass in the sweet spot, and the 3-band EQ works very good also to fine tune the color button preset.
I use this pedal to shape my overall tone and currently as my main drive also. I've used this as my main drive for all this year and I think it sounds good ... but not great. But maybe that's just because I prefer heavier distorted sound nowadays. Also, the distortion channel share the same EQ with clean channel which lessened its flexibility. But if you only need light distortion, this pedal can deliver very well.
The noise gate works as it should. I've never really used any other noise gate, so I can't really say much here.
I've never used the DI function, so can't really say anything here
All in all ... I think this is a very good pedal, especially the clean channel. I highly recommend it, but everyone has different taste. So I suggest that you try before you buy

Pros: Excellent tone, tweakable, built like a tank
Cons: A little noisy on distortion, gate is only ok

My rig:

Fender Jazz Bass V (MIM, stock)
Peterson Strobostomp 2
MXR M-80 Bass DI+
Ampeg SVT3-Pro
DBX 160a (in loop)
Ampeg SVT410HLF

My band:

This pedal added the grind and growl that I was looking for. I didn't have it in the studio for the two songs on our myspace page, but I'm considering re-tracking bass on them with it now that I have it. I was already really happy with my tone, but this pedal just makes it sound "evil". I keep the Gain about 5, and the Blend set to a little more clean than distortion. When soundchecking last Friday our sound guy commented "That's the most evil bass tone ever!" with a big grin on his face, and the rest of my band couldn't stop grinning either. Highly recommended! I rarely turn it off unless I need pure clean tone.
