Description:
|
Marcus Miller has personally worked with DR to develop a new and improved version of one of the best stainless round wound bass strings on the market. The effort took over a year, and the result is a " fatter, deeper, smoother " string that satisfied Marcus Miller's demanding standards. Fatter tone. Deeper sound, smoother feel and response are the qualities that separate Marcus Miller Fat-Beams from all other ordinary bass strings. They're also more consistent in feel along the length of the string, as well as string to string. Gauges: .045; .065; .085; .105

Anyone who has never tried DR strings and want to try their stainless steel set, I'd suggest trying their Fat Beams (Marcus Miller) over the High Beams.
The Fat Beams have more mids that cut through the mix than the High Beams IMO. To me, High Beams have kind of a mid cut sound to them. Good for slappers. Fat Beams IMO have more Bottom to them.
From what I heard, the difference between the two is that the Fat Beams are wound at a different speed than the High Beams. Kind of like the D'Addario SlowWounds. I don't know if that is true.
They are very bright and last a long time. The tension on the Fat Beams are a little tighter than the High Beams.

After using Elixir nanowebs for several years, I was getting really tired of the coating shredding on the strings, and I never really liked the fact that they sounded a bit dull even when brand new. So I decided, based on reviews, to try the DR Fatbeams on my P-Bass. They blew me away....great strings, great tone (bright but not TOO bright, and full), and they last even longer than the Elixirs did. Love 'em.

These strings are amazing, they sound great, and last very long. They give a good "Fender" slap and pop yet sound very deep when I play fingerstyle. They are great for all genres of music.

Excellent strings. I use a set of the medium-lights (.045-.100) on my fretless four-string, and they work like a charm: Modern and refined in tone, but also warm and phat - especially for a stainless steel string. Nice, supple feel too - without being loose or flabby.
Very nice...

I just put a set on my cirrus and these things are amazing! I had previously had a bad experience with ss strings (rotosound), but these are exactly what I was looking for. Plenty of tight bottom end(not boomy), with lots of upper sparkle. These are amazing and I have found my new regulars.

I installed a 45-105 set on my G&L USA SB-2 last year, and have been completely satisfied. I agree with MysticMichael's description: they're defined and crisp, yet also warm and phat, with a little crunch/growl for good measure. They cut through, but have thick, satisfying low end, and I greatly prefer these to the GHS Boomers I used previously on the SB-2. I wouldn't mind a little more stiffness, but even so, I get very low action with zero fret buzz, and they feel great.

I wear them on my US J Bass and they'll stay there until something really else good comes along. I also like Mark and his DR company.

Have not gone through a lot of strings, so i only have limited selection i can compare to. I just got stuck on these because i liked them a lot. Very bright, last pretty long time (which is somewhat a bad thing, i like changing my strings, it feels like i play more then i do when your strings have to be changed a lot.)
Overall, really nice, bright sounding strings. Makes you wish you could play better.
Played on: Dean edge-4 (4 string, active), Fender Mexican Jazz (4 string, passive), Fender Geddy Lee Jazz (Passive, 4-string)
