Like the combo, the 400 PRO HD has been designed to deliver a thick, natural and balanced tone that sits fat in your live or studio mix. The 400 PRO HD is mounted in a heavy duty wooden cabinet with protective corners, and has been built with extra room to fit your favorite piece of rack gear!

I purchased this head from member Mr. Dak here on talkbass. Great deal to be had on this head as I acquired it for well below suggested retail price . Good, honest seller check his stuff out. I have not had this head for very long and am just straching the surface of what it has to offer in terms of features and sound, but my initial impression of this head is very positive.
I am using the Fender pro 400 to power my Ampeg 4 x 10 hln cab, and I must say it is a potent combination. This head is extremely "warm" for a solid state. Fender thought it out when they conceived their Pro line: This amp has everything you need and nothing you don't. A simple mute button to mute all outputs but your tuner, XLR out, effects loop, gain knob, compression knob, read the specs, this head screams "gig me" .
Thus far the knobs I have been gravitating to the most to shape my sound have been the gain, room balance, and compression knobs. The parametric eq I find is a bit finicky & hard to dial in a sweet spot, but as I mentioned earlier I just got the head and am no doubt dealing with a learning curve. But I think I like band eq better. Having an on-board compression knob is just a godsend IMO. And its good compresion to boot! I really like the room balance knob used in conjuction with the enhance switch-There is a large amount of tone shaping that can be manipulated just using these two functions in tandem. All in all I could not be more pleased. Oh and did I mention it is LOUD!
My Ric has never growled so well...
10-21-07 edit: I commented that a 2nd channel would of been nice in the "cons" section of the review. My critique of the lack of this feature is now somewhat muted due to the fact that you can engaged/disengaged the parametric eq via the inclulded footswitch-The EQ has its own gain knob as well, so you can get a really effective change of tone. This feature provides something akin to a second channel. Very Nice!
