About a year ago I read an article about D'addario's new line of stainless steel bass strings. The only other stainless steel strings I had played were Rotosounds, and I dis-liked them because they were really rough and ate into my fingertips and tarnished quickly. Regardless, the review of the Pro Steels was positive and I gave them a try. WOW! These things are incredible. They are VERY bright. My bass sounds like a piano they are so bright. IN fact, they are so bright some people might be turned off by them. But they mellow after a session or two. And with the increased magnetic properties of stainless steel over nickle, these string have a higher output and are more punchy. Of course, one of the best aspects is that they are super smooth and resist corrosion better than nickle strings. I can usually play 3 or 4 shows with a set of Pro Steels, where as before I would change strings every other show. Admittedly my hands are very greasy and sweaty, and I kill a set of strings very quickly. These strings can combat that though and now I use them on all my basses. GREAT PRODUCT!

Cons:

really gritty feel

These are budget strings. I can no longer afford my slinky per month habit and was searching for a cheaper alternative. As can be expected nothing matched up. These strings were bright and poppy but there was something missing. There was no real warmth or depth to the sound. I played it through a big amp and there was too much uneven sound. The main flaw that these strings have is that they are really, really gritty to play. You can feel it, like your fingers are dirty. This made playing well, inspired line tricky. I had to use distortion to cover it up. These are good strings for the price, but I wouldn't endorse them.

A little rough, noisy

I bought these to replace the stock strings on my Epi T-Bird Goth because the stockers were dull and just felt bad. To my knowledge the T-Bird was NOT a floor model, and I replaced these after having it about two weeks and after many cleanings.........just so you have an idea of my basis of comparison.
I wanted to brighten the sound and that's just what they did. The growl is still there on an open E, but like I said, everything nice and bright.
They seem to keep tune very well.
On the downside, they feel a little rough to my fingers, and they're also a bit noisy..........but I'm also a beginner so it could be sloppy technique.
