D'Addario Chromes Flatwound Bass strings are famed for their smooth feel and warm, mellow tone. The strings are wound using an outer flattened, "ribbon" wire which is then polished to a smooth finish. Chromes deliver a deep, rich low end tone that's idea'l for jazz and R&B, but also has applications in contemporary pop music.

I had been looking to get a punchier, deeper sound out of my p-bass and a friend recommended some flatwound strings. Without any specific brand recommendations I decided on these and am very happy. The sound is great, I love the feel of flat wound on my fingers and together with a new bridge I am getting the tone I want out of my bass for playing the blues.

Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid.

They are more expensive than some, but (like many things) you do get what you pay for.
The product description says a smooth and mellow sound, but I get a nice ringing brightness out of them as well. It is a very good combination of smooth play, mellow finger sounds and bright ring.
I'm not sure if I've found my Toby's stringy soulmate, but these provide a very cool tone.

Smooth, punchy, warm yet bright

The blue silk looks like crap on my sunburst jazz bass

Would reccomend for any Jazz bass! My tone went from *click thud twang* to silky smooth with just enough brightness. The extra tension helps with my low tuning as well.
