I bought these to replace the Seymour Duncan/Basslines SPB-3, also known as "Quarter-Pounders," which for reasons unknown (to me), developed weak output in the treble half of the pickup.
There were several other replacements in consideration, including Fralin, Nordstrand, Rio Grande, and SD Antiquity. In the end, though, I decided to go back to basics with Fender's original split-P pickup.
I'm very pleased and would call this an upgrade. While it may not have the output of the SPB-3 (10.5k vs. 19k), it makes up for that with clarity and tight, focused notes, which I thought the SPB-3 lacked. High notes aren't harsh, with the exception of only the highest notes, and lows remain clear without becoming muddy. There is, however, a very subtle hum, which I never experienced with the SPB-3. You have to be listening for it to hear it, though.
Overall, I recommend this pickup for all genres, except hard rock and metal, and maybe R&B -- genres where earthshaking lows and high output are desired. I give it an 8 out of 10 for value and clarity. If it weren't for the near-inaudible hum...

I recently put these pick-ups in my Arbor P-Bass copy. Let me tell you, these suckers have deep bass. I have some active basses that don't have as much bass as this bass. It's amazing. I would recommend these pick-ups to anyone. lots of bass.

I had these installed on my 1976 P Bass when the original pickups went out. It actually improved the tone. I cannot recommend these enough.

I put these in my 02 MIM P bass i was re-doing. The stock pups were Ok but lacked punch. I thought the original re-issues would do the trick and i was not let down. Great deep bass and good mids that true fender P bass tone.

I upgraded my Fender Standard MIM Precision Bass with this pickups. I'm impressed with the improved tone - a nicer bass with more growl. As well I find the tone control now provides me with more variation in tone over my previous pickups.
Overall pleased with the upgrade. Worth the $.

A massive improvment from the MIA standard pickups that came in my bass. I installed it 2 years ago and still can't put the thing (my bass) down. It covers all the frequencies very well I find and simply does the job as it should. My bass has alot more personality now and cuts through with the band I play in (6-piece: 2 guitars, fiddle, keys, trumpet, drums and 3 vox) with a nice warm growl and authority but without swamping things out. Was thinking of selling my bass to get a 62 reissue but this simple and inexpensive upgrade has saved me a lot of cash. I LOVE it! Oh, and it's sweet to record with too! Recommended most highly.
