I love this bass! First of all I wasn't really interested, but after having seen it in the store I had to try it out. It basically blew me away, amazing sound and a dream to play! I then bought it from the same store once I had the money together.
Now after owning this beast for 5 months I'm still very happy. The sound of the "F#" string is fully there, the tension of the string is perfect to. Dropping the tuning to the low "E" is also no big deal and still sounds decent.
The only problem, which doesn't have to do anything with the bass, is the proper reproduction of the notes threw the cab. The cab I use is not made for such low frequencies so at low notes it does get muddy, but its still acceptable. There are a few cabs out there which are good for the "low end sound", like the Basson B410B and B210B and also the Accugroove Whappo Grande. I'm personally thinking of purchasing a B410B in soon future.
Recording with the bass is no problem at all, the sound is all there.
The hard woods used give the bass a lot of growl and punch, it has a very unique sound. The electronics are also perfect, with splitting the humbucker you can get a completely different sound (much more punch). The MEC 3-band EQ also does its job well, just take care when boosting the lows too much. The "F#" can really make you're (15" speaker rattle, even at low volumes.
I don't know if this occurs on other amps, but on mine I do get a lot of "humming" if I turn the mids up on the basses 3-band EQ. For me it's not a problem as I always have them turned quite down, but perhaps for some other players.
The electronics also give you the option to switch from active to passive. The passive sound of the bass is very decent and defined.
The neck is the standard U-shape Warwick neck (also named as the Baseball bat neck). It has a 35" scale length for improving the tension of the "F#" string.
In my opinion the neck feels great, and I don't have any problems with it; also it gives great sustain. Just perhaps if you have very small hands it might be inconvenient... The wood on the neck feels smooth and soft, very comfortable.
Quality is superb! As known of Warwick, all parts are manufactured at its best. With the bass you get the owners manual and a whole lot of tools for adjustments, which are perfect. The strap-locks are very good and also included.
The balance of the bass is very fine, gives a comfortable playing while standing. Sitting down the bass gets a little bit uncomfortable after a while, but I'm not complaining!
I can very much recommend this bass to anyone who is interested in low tunings. Though there are some people which have tuned it standard and are also very happy, I hope they review it on here.
Everything on the bass is excellent, so 10/10.
