Pros: Minimal weight for an 80's amp, reliable, loud, great tone, intuitive
Cons: No tuner/mute switch, gets somewhat hot

When it comes to amps, I've played through a lot of stuff (Ampeg, Hartke, Eden, Peavey, etc.) but owned very little: I thus always favoured a product that was easy to work with, reliable and always pretty even sounding.

This old beast delivers this in spades. I picked it up on TB and have played a couple of gigs with it in many "crazy" or "funky" rooms and was always able to get a good tone out of it. The pre-shape filters are not the most useful, but I used the low-end cut once on a really boomy stage were volume/rumble was not welcomed.

The EQ is a joy to experiment with. It's pretty sensitive and always musical sounding. The choosen freq. points are also very good for rock: 60, 250, 1k and 4k. The boost features also adds a lot of subtle but welcomed warmth to the punchy tone: I almost always run mine on 1 or 2 o'clock and use the master to control my overall volume.

For me, it's the ideal set and forget bass amp: I usually only mess with the EQ for corrective reasons and always know that whatever I need to cut/boost, I'll get that good GK growl that makes my p-bass sits so well in the mix. The 200w, through a sensitive enclosure, is all that is needed for stage volume levels that border insane sometimes. You need to have a PA for big places, but if you play in 1200 seaters, there's usually a PA or your band is big enough to have one so there's no problem.

And for the price, it's a steal! And you can also pick up the 400rb-III wich has even more features and watts. But the 400 RB has the potential to "hit the rails" (GK jargon for sweating) sooner, wich I like. It does not have the bi-amping functions of it's bigger cousins, but for a minimalist, working man's rig that needs to get loud and still sing without breaking the bank, this is the ticket.

Pros: wonderful sound, light weight
Cons: no xlr out

I've got mine in the '90s.
Sounds wonderful with every kind of bass.
Super with upright. Plays well with every cabinet and the boost function is very useful.
I miss the xlr direct output
