Cons:

Not a standard playing position (explained in review)

|
First, all construction pictures are available here: http://www.morningless.net/lecompte/
Second, English is not my first language so I'm sorry if I use incorrect terms here and there.
Now for the review. I've had the bass in my hands for many weeks now and just started playing with my new band... Each time I show this bass to new people, they can't believe the quality of the construction and finish. Wood pieces were perfectly chosen by Bud and were fantastically put together. It's the "tightest" bass I've ever had in my hands. It simply feels right.
I love the neck: the curve feels perfect in my hand and the finish on the back offers a very low resistance when sliding up and down. Fret finish is also the best anyone could wish for. Long story short: no details were forgotten at all.
When I talk about "not a standard playing position", I mean that the neck feels like it wants to "go away" from you. I'm not talking about neck dive (cause there is none) but about how far from you (or your chest if you prefer) the neck wants to go when you play. But when I think about it, I guess it's totally normal for two reasons: the violin shape, and the strap-lock location (back of the bass body). My guess is that any violin-shaped bass will do the same.
I must say though that after some time playing, I feel totally comfortable with it now and I will never regret my choice (violin model).
About the sound now. Man! Putting these two big pick-ups with the 3 band EQ and all the rest (described in the header) makes this bass sound like thunder. Hahaha! Seriously, you don't expect an instrument that small to give as much. But it really does, and even more. Also, with all those switches it makes the instrument very versatile. I've played many styles with it right now, from Johnny Cash to Dimmu Borgir and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and it handles anything.
Overall, I'm totally satisfied of all what Bud has done for me. I would recommend his basses to anyone looking for a custom bass with perfect construction, huge and versatile sound, and good service for a very interesting price.
