Pros: Comfortable neck, great tone, comes set up well, durable
Cons: Very heavy, hard to find dealers

When I was looking for an upgrade from my 504, I went to my luthier, and asked for a good sounding bass, that was versatile and played well. He came back up with a brand of bass I had never heard of called fernandes. The second I played it, I knew. This would be my next bass.

It has really good rock and funk tone, and if you know your way around an eq, its really easy to dial in a good jazz tone. I havent used it much for metal, but for the bit of metal I do play (metallica, avenged sevenfold, etc), it has done its job well.

As far as playability, this bass is utterly amazing. The neck is very fast, and you get a really good feeling of having control over the entire fretboard. Difficult songs like YYZ became almost easy to play. As far as the right hand goes, it was like any other good bass. Good string spacing, good height off the pickups, etc. Nothing extraordinary, but no nasty surprises.

The set up out of the box was the best Ive seen period. Nice low action, good pup height, no dead spots, etc.

The active preamp is very useful, and in fact, I havent touched my amps EQ in a few weeks, because I can dial in almost any tone I need from the bass.

As far as maintenance, its the same as any bass. Slight truss rod adjustment when the seasons change, and regular string changing.

As a performing bassist (in a regularly gigging rock band, and a frequently gigging jazz big band) I can say that this bass is outstanding for its price. Its no where near Alembic, or other custom basses, but it can compete with ibanez's, fenders, and any other bass in price ranges a few steps up.

To get to the point, great playability, good versatile tone, and fair price.
