Hope this helps someone...
After 20+ years gigging I joined a touring musical and finally had to put my beloved Eberle upright in the bay of a bus. Mom bought "Fred" brand new for me and we grew up together. So regardless the actual monetary value of my 1979 plywood bass, when a roadie grabs it, it might as well be a 200 year old Amati.
Here's the rub - do I spring for a Gage or Kolstein case that costs twice what Fred would bring?
The alternative I chose is an Enthral "hard bass case" from Jim Laabs Music in WI. This is a fiberglass shell padded case with 8 handles. It features 4 smooth "rollerblade" wheels, 2 on the back and 2 on the side for navigating doors, etc. When I pack up I lock all the latches so they don't pop open & get broken off.
If you need a travel case (van/bus/trailor) for your upright and don't want to drop 2K., let me suggest Enthral.
