I have a 1998 4 stringer. Being that there were no comments I thought I would add my 2 cents worth. Regarding the 4 stringer, this is a fine bass for the money. I purchased mine used and was flawless. The bass has a wide neck and chews throught batteries a bit fast but the tone is none other then Alembic. If you have always wanted to move up into one of this intruments, this route wont break the bank. The quality of the hardware and construction is first rate for the money. It's a bit heavy to gig all night but plays well while sitting. I give it a 9. For the right price it's a good investment, it's an Alembic...

I just picked a second hand one of these puppies up late last year.
These are hard to come by down here in Australia and this was an Ebay special.
Mine is a 1993 model.
It has a set neck and original Alembic active electronics.
4 knobs: volume, blend, bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut.
I am super-stoaked with this bass and think I got a bargain.
I never thought I would have the cash to own a bass of this calibre!!
The low-B comes out a lot clearer than any previous 5-string I've had - though I've never had a bass of this calibre before.
The sound is truely amazing. First jam I had all of my bandmates were massively impressed.
I went from playing an Ibanez BTB405QM which I have always loved the feel of but felt lacked a bit in tone. This Alembic has the same string spacing and scale length so felt almost the same (but even nicer) to play straight outta the case. The sustain is huge compared to the BTB.
I will probably never get rid of this bass no matter what!!
If it got stolen I would find the bastard and chop his balls off!! but I probably wouldn't buy another unless I could afford it!!
My advice is, if you can find one at a good price GRAB IT!!
