Pros: Well balanced, quality parts, agressive tone, ergonomically suited for fast playing
Cons: You get ONE tone, no 3-band eq.

I had been toying with the idea of getting a rock-only instrument for a while. My Lakland and Pedulla are top notch instruments but just have sound and playing characteristics that didn't lend themselves to be played fast, with distortion/OD, down tuned, or with a pick. Not being able to find a Holy Grail bass that sounds and plays awesome whether playing jazz, pop or metal; I decided to try a different approach.

ESP's LTD brand makes extremely well built instruments for the price they are being offered at. The 400 series of basses come made out of good woods (mostly mahogany and adler), have EMG brand name electronics, neck through body designs and good tuners. This version of the Tom Araya signature bass cuts back on some of the more expensive features of the full blown ESP model without sacrificing quality or resorting to generic parts.

The tone of this bass matches it's physical design; its sharp, growly and agressive. The highs are glassy and clear, but as one might expect based on the specs the lows aren't very warm or natural, being more in the low-mid range.

The physical design is not subtle with it's pentagram inlays, sharp edges, and all-black-only paint job. The neck is very playable and suprisingly fast for a finished/painted neck and the body is light weight, with perfectly placed scoops and cut aways.

I was able to get a screaming deal on this instrument because there was a small ding in the paint, and at the price I got this bass for I really couldn't be happier.
The ONLY compaint I have is that this model doesn't have the 3 band EQ a lot of the LTD basses have. This gives it a very limited choice of tones, so don't expect much in the way of versatility.
