Pros: smooth feel, mostly consistent tone across strings, tone
Cons: barely noticable "deadness" to e-string

Having come across some positive verdicts on this forum, I thought I'd bite the bullet and actually try some higher-end strings on my bass.

The ball ends are well finished and I'm personally a huge fan of the relatively retro touch of red silk windings, so first impressions were very good. Acoustically played they sounded like a slightly worn-in stainless set, these are hexagonal cores so I wasn't hugely surprised to find they are comparable to Ernie-ball slinkies.

Plugged in, I found the nickel warmth I have heard so much about, on my warwick corvette $$ this came out as a very pronounced lower mid with plenty of definition. Not to say these strings are overly bright though, harmonics sound clearly across all the strings and I found they suit chord-based playing incredibly well.

Given a few weeks, they lost the initial zing and in all honesty this has improved them no end. There is still plenty of definition but I cannot emphasise enough how warm and mellow these strings sound. I whole heartedly recommend them to anyone who has yet to try nickel-wounds but is still a fan of the high-end sparkle offered by steel strings.
