The Carvin BX1200 is a head we should all be looking at. The clarity on this head is unreal and for the last few shows I have finally been able to hear my bass tone in ways I never thought possible. I have been able to hear the actual notes of my playing and not just a muddy tone behind me. The power ratings on this head are definitely not overstated as my rig was crazy loud with great tone. The compressor knob works better on this head comapred to anything else I have used. You can hear immediate results with the compressor knob - goes from low end crazy to tight and punchy with just a small turn of the knob.
The tone controls are heavily responsive too, not as sensitive as an Eden head though - not a bad thing at all! Everything on this head works great and the amount of tone changes you can do is amazing. The low end is not too strong, nor is it too weak. You don't have to dial out low end to get a great tone. Despite this head being 100% solid state, the midrange is clear and smoothe throughout the spectrum. I was amazed at how nice it sounded - not nasally at all. As I said before, the high end is extremely clear all the way through.
Comes in a hard shell carry case, built like a tank and at 25lbs is very easy to carry around.
Compared to the 4 PRO - The 4 PRO has too much low end on the flat settings, not much clarity at all, midrange had no articulation, and it seemed to be great at only giving you that thick and woofy Ampeg tone. If you want that Ampeg tone, go Ampeg. If you want clarity and anything else tone wise, I highly suggest the Carvin BX1200. The Carvin head is just cheaper than everything out there with comparable features and power ratings. And the best part is - the Carvin head just out performs gear double to 3x more expensive! Try one today!
