Description:

It is not a preamp, but can be used as such. I use it for the piezo output of my EUB, but also for bass guitar. Consists of 2 circuits: The "big bottom" to enhance the lower frequencies, and the "Xciter" for the higher freqs. Especially the "big bottom" is amazing: It really gives your sound a lot more punch, withouth requiring significantly more power from the amp. The Xciter can get harsh when overused.
Be sure to try both this one and the more aggressive sounding Bass Xciter before you buy.

Mm, I mixed up the \"Insert a product\" part with the \"Review\" form, so my opinion is already on top.
To give some details: Well built, ugly colour and design, versatile, good DI.

I have the Aphex Bass Exciter. Overall, This is a good product if your are looking for fatter bottom end, and more low-mid punch. I found It really gives me a nice boost in tone, without having to push my amp/speakers too hard. I also noticed better sustain when using it. It also helps in my effects chain with other pedals where you lose some low end. I have not used it as a DI, but it does have the capability. The battery is a pain to change. You have to remove 4 long screws on the baseplate to access the battery. The only improvement I could think of is dedicated Mid-range control. This unit only has low, and high boosts.

I love mine, I originally bought for use with a piezo electric violin but just decided to try it with a P bass clone. By accident I found it to be excellent and even better for electric bass then for the piezo violin. I really only see it as a versatile tone control but you can't achieve the same results with an EQ or amp modeling. At least not the same results as this, it can be a bit addictive
I can enhance specific tonalities or de-emphasize them you can make your instrument sound like an EB-0 or Funk bass depending on how you set it.
Might have been nice if there was a mid circuit on it but then it might get too complicated to use. Instead I find I don't need the big bottom section for bass emphasis so I set it too operate on the mids and just adjust the blend knob according to what I want to hear.
I place it first in the effects chain to get tone where I want it and add anything else on a per need basis. Remember sometime less is more and this one seems fulfill a lot of my tonal needs.
Naturally your mileage may vary so try it out first and use it as a powerful tone control and see if it gets you what you want. I try to keep my rig as portable as I can and try not to develop dependencies on amps or even effects, such as this. Still portability requires some tools like a preamp with tone shaping capabilities or something like this. I try not to get hung up on requiring/needing any specific device to play, including a specific amp and this is handy.
------------------------------ Short Scale four with Boss VF-1 what else do I need besides 24 frets. Want a Fender Bass VI, I know.. I know, nobody considers it a bass but I like it.
