Pros: Jazz Bass body with Alembic quality, great neck and beautiful wineburst finish
Cons: None, other than everyone wants to play it!

I was looking for a smaller Alembic to play after purchasing my Spyder. I also wanted a Jazz Bass style (I grew up playing them), but wanted more tonal variety. The Europa delivers in spades on both accounts. I find the quick tone changes particularly useful when coupled with the \"Q\" switch and low pass filter. This is the one Alembic I own I can get to sound like a Jazz Bass (and anything else, except a Rickenbacker - nothing on God\'s green earth sounds like a Rick, not even an Alembic!). Action is low, and the bass is very responsive to all playing styles. While not possessing the same \"wow\" factor as my Dragon\'s Wing or Spyder, it nevertheless elicits comments like \"what kind of bass is that?,\" \"how much did you pay?,\" \"where can I get one?,\" \"man that thing is awesome!,\" etc.

This bass is probably one of Alembic\'s more \"accessible\" instruments in terms of looks. It has a Fenderish look to it, and most folks who pick one up will find it\'s not that much different in feel to a Jazz, and therefore find it familiar and comfortable. I think that\'s what Alembic was going for when they designed this instrument - something similar to a Fender, but with all the superlative attributes of an Alembic. If that was the intent, they\'ve succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

Would I buy another? Yes, and I\'d probably have some custom options put in (e.g., Series II electronics, inlays, choice of woods, etc.). It is the most well rounded of my three Alembics, and is versatile enough to handle any musical style. If you\'re looking for a high end \"boutique\" bass with familiar features, this is your instrument. I\'ll part with mine when someone pries it from my cold, dead hands!
