Rotary bass, middle and treble controls are supplemented by smaller rotary controls providing 15dB of cut and boost at 220Hz and 1.6kHz, providing a comprehensive 5 band EQ section. Additionally, front panel push switches for Bright and Deep settings provide instant access to attacking and warm, rounded sounds respectively and, on the subject of low-end response, the trademark Ashdown sub-harmonic generator is ready and able to deliver truck loads of earth moving tone if called upon. Inputs are provided for active and passive instruments and the front panel also features an effects send and return, a tuner/line output and a balanced DI output for direct connection to a mixing console. All MAG combos have extension speaker outputs and are loaded with Ashdown BlueLine speakers for exceptional attack, clarity and low-end performance. Protection is provided by tough black carpet covering and new steel grilles, while the amplifier chassis is constructed from light yet strong, heat-dissipating magnesium alloy for ‘roadie-free’ portability. And, of course, the famous Ashdown VU meter remains central to the cool look of these great, value for money bass amplifiers. I recommend this for the beginner because if you are taking lessons try this and you will find out quickly that it doesn\'t take as much effort to get the notes when playing & practicing. I recommend this for the gig user, this is all you need for small & medium venues, just add an extension cabinet for larger. I think this is the best amplifier for the money hands down. Yes | Price you paid?: None indicated | Rating: 10    Pros: sheer power and sound quality Cons: speaker could do with an upgrade this combo sounds brilliant. i got mine and upgraded the 8ohm 150watt 15" internal blueline speaker with a 8ohm 500watt eminence speaker. the emminence and the ashdown make a mean couple, it sounds fantastic. this amp suits my style pefectly and i recomend this amp to anyone, at some point i will invest in a 4x10 or even an 8x10 to get the full 307watts (at 4ohm). its the loudest 307watts i have ever heard. its also relativly small so its easy to load into and out of a car. an earthshattering sound for a good price. fed up of farting practise amps that cant be herd becouse becouse of the drummer? you want to drown out the drummer? get this amp. it also looks cool with the glowing v.u. ------------------------------ Gear: Rickenbacker 4003 Mid Blue ( waiting) Ashdown 300watt MAG 1X15 COMBO with Eminence driver Ashdown 8X10 1970'S jazz copy with humbucks Wesley 5 string P bass copy Anonymous Review Date: Fri June 16, 2006 Would you recommend the product? Only thing is start-up with extensioncab can be tricky.(ashdown knows this) Start-up without and than carefully plug in the extensioncab. Not that you need one because this monster is loud and competes wtith the loudest drummer without extension cab. Sound is very nice, needs only very little equalization. Have had one for a while and it great from the sounds control through to being able to add an extra cab (Great price too)! I use this amp for small / medium gigs and it handles well. I have not had to push it hard either! Sometime a pain to carry for Gigs... but it's well worth it! I upgraded from my 20w practice amp because I started playing with a drummer and needed something we could both hear. Definitely loud enough. I have the input and output knobs at only 1/4 of the way and the volume on my bass turned 3/4 of the way up and it is plenty loud enough to hear over the drums. I was planning on getting a 2x10" extension cab but tbh I don't think I'll need it anytime soon. I love the tone of this amp. The 5-band eq gives you all sorts of options. Yes | Price you paid?: $299.00 | Rating: 10    Pros: Tone and features Cons: Power switch located ont eh back of the cabinet Like one of the previous posters this is my first real amp. It is also my 3rd having gone from a small practice amp to a larger, but discount amp, and then this. My guitar player upgraded her amp and started an arms race that had me shopping for more power. I was also looking for something more in the mainstream and had heard good things about this brand. In the store I played with several different basses off of the rack and was very impressed immediately by the clear tone and punch of this amp. While there is a very good equalization adjustments on the control panel I find the one button EQ to be just fine. I am no longer using my digitech compressor or D1 SansAmp with this amplifier as the tones and sound no longer require it. A good price from the local music store and good quality sold me initially. Since then the sound is what I notice the most. I enjoy listening to sound I make so much that I sometimes have to force myself to listen to the other players.
