Pros: Very clean Sound can go from growly to deep and anywhere in between
Cons: Can Over power some pre amps that don\"t have active buffer switches

These Pickups are active and they sound clear and do not appear to alter the sound of your bass. They sound good no matter what your style of play is.

Pros:
Cons:

I bought some EMG J Style for my Fender Precision Lyte Deluxe te replace the original ones (pre-amp went out)... First thing I tought when I plugged it on was that I should have done that a long time ago! It has power and definition. I use it with two 9V batteries in serie and I don\'t intend to change my set-up any time soon!

Pros: Great sound; easy to change tonal qualities; quality engineering and materials.
Cons: Haven't found any.

I bought an Ibanez SR300DX about three years ago. After a few months, I purchased the EMG PJ set (w/separate vol and one tone control) and replaced the stock Ibanez PUP and PHAT electronics, not due to any dissatisfaction, but rather just to try the EMGs. I've been very happy with the change, especially after switching from D'Addario XL-170s to TI Powerbass strings. I really love the sound and I've run it through some different setups, but usually an Eden Nemesis NC210 combo for most gigs that I use it on. The bass sounds just great through any of these systems. The battery lasts about 10-11 months. I've also considered going to an 18 volt system, but have been reluctant to route the body to make room for the extra battery. Before I started playing EBG about 20 years ago (I've played double bass for forty-one years), I'd always enjoyed the sound that Mark Egan got from his basses, and I think EMGs were his primary choice of PUPs when he was working with fellow schoolmate, Pat Metheny. Just listen to his sound on "San Lorenzo" from one of Metheny's early albums. A number of years ago I put a EMG P pup on a fretless bass that I built 22 years ago, replacing a DiMarzio pup, and with TI Jazz Flats, its a rich, full sounding bass with a strong, firm sound on the bottom octave. I think EMGs are an exceptional pup. Although I wouldn't put them on every bass I own as I do enjoy a variety. Some original pups, such as those on Travis Bean and Kawai basses, have great sound and it would almost be criminal to change them.

Pros: Never heard pickups with that much puch and aggressiveness!
Cons: I had to unsolder everything because pots didn't fit my bass...

I bought these pickups for my old Vantage X-99 bass. I first had to unsolder everything because it didn't fit the holes in the body... Once everything was installed (with two 9V batteries wired to get 18 volts), I was totally (and happily) surprised by the GREAT sound I got. Mids are especially impressive! If you guys like the active sound, you're gonna love these pickups.

Pros: great sound, killer sustain
Cons: none

got em at g.c. installed them in my ibanez. they woke this low end bass up. all around sound is much inproved. the j pick up didnt fit so i had to mill it out some. also the input jack had to be relocated. again no big problem. i wired it to 18 volts as mentioned in other reviews. the solderin is straight foreward. no problems the directions are easy to understand.

Pros: Amazing Sound. Made my Plywood Peavey sound like a good bass!
Cons: the wiring diagrams were cartoons instead of real diagrams but I guess that makes it easier for the average Joe. But does that really matter anyway? What matters what the killer sould I got when I was done.

I put the EMG-PJ set in a Peavey passive P-bass. It was a beginner bass that was probable only worth about $100. I drilled out the hole for the J pickup as well as one in the back for the battery. When I put it all together and plugged it in I couldn't stop playing for hours. I was totally amazed at the sound coming out of this bass. I have since bought a Dean, Razor J-bass and put the EMG-J set with the EMG-BQS system in that and it sounds amazing as well! I love these Pickups

Pros: Good gain, Noiseless
Cons: Too much "EMG" in your tone

My experience with EMG PJ's involves three different guitars. I have played them in an older Yamaha RBX series (basswood body, rosewood neck), a Fender Precision with a bridge pickup route (swamp ash and maple neck) and a Hamer Blitz (gigantic mahogany Def Leppard bass).

Here is the ironic thing about the pickups. Every one of those basses sounded basically the same. The EMG's just sort of took over the sound. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending upon the bass.

With the Yamaha, it was a big improvement to a fairly cheap bass.

With the Hamer, the pickups took it to another level; I plugged that into a SVT rig with a three piece, classic rock, god of thunder, power trio. Armageddinit! Very fun.

With the Precision however, the pickups took away the real character of the bass and basically produced the same as the previous two basses.

In essence, EMG PJ's are about as subtle as a sledgehammer but a sledgehammer is pretty useful for pounding on things. Just be careful you don't smash a finger.
