Pros: Great price, very portable, very good low mids
Cons: Sound dispersion not as good as expected

I bought this cabinet after some research and was mainly trying to downsize my rig from two EA cxl112s to one Schroeder 1212. I spoke to a couple of users who also used the same rig I had and they were extremely positive about the Schroeder.

I play upright and electric in a variety of situations with a lot of gigs coming from a corporate/wedding 10 piece. The head is a Walter Woods ultra and Focus 1.

While the Schroeder has a very nice sound rich in the low mids and packs plenty of heft, it didn\'t disperse the sound off axis as well as the two EAcxl112s. This is not a problem if you\'re going through the PA system but on most of our gigs there is not much PA support for bass so your rig is responsible for filling the venue. Everyone in the rhythm section commented that they heard me clearer with the EAs. This was over a few weeks of gigs. They also commented on the Schroeder\'s big tone and how full it was up close, but the EAs are cleaner and really disperse the sound better over a wider area.

The top end is very nice and smooth, in fact I prefer the Schroeder for slapping more than I do the EAs. The Schroeder really does pack a good amount of sonic heft with plenty of low mids rich in definition and punch. The bass I use is a Sadowsky NYC 4 string and the Schroeder makes it sound very beefy with a nice non-harsh high end. A wonderful sound that I can\'t always get out of the EAs.

For upright the Schroeder is very rich but not transparent enough. Volume is not a problem by any means but I like the upright sound a little less colored although the Schroeder is nowhere nears as colored as other speakers. (e.g. it sounds more defined and less dark than an Aguilar GS112 but not as transparent as an EA or Acme B1).

The Schroeder did sound very good with EUBs. I have a Messenger and Eminence and both of them sounded excellent, with the Schroeder adding full body to those two instruments.

EAs are 45 pounds a piece and I have to bring two of them. Big pain in the butt. Each is 8ohm. The Schroeder is 48 lbs and 4 ohms. The Schroeder definitely wins the portability category. Unfortunately, in bigger venues the single 1212 can\'t beat the two EAs.

I realize that this review is a bit unfair in that I\'m comparing one 1212 to two EAs. But that was specifically my purpose in buying the Schroeder (to get away with one standalone cab) and I was sure to ask that specific question before purchase. So I am also reviewing according to my purposes and situation.

Is it a good cab? Definitely. Sounds strong and punchy, good high end but in my opinion it can\'t replace two cxl112s in my situation. But I like the sound it produces very much and in moderate volume situations or gigs where I am in PA it is a terrific cab and that\'s why I\'m keeping it.

Pros: light, inexpensive, loud and clear with great sound
Cons: none that I can find

I use two Schroeder Cabinets, a 2X10 and a 2X12. I play 250+ shows a year all over the US, primarily as a touring musician in bars and nightclubs. I play the acoustic double bass, or stand-up bass, in a heavy rock context, and I get more volume with less feedback playing through Schroeder’s cabinets than any other speaker I have ever used.

The design of the angled speakers allows me to stand in the shadow of the two speakers, yet hear myself perfectly.

I would stack either of these cabinets up against any other 4X10 on the market…I think they are cleaner and louder than the Eden, SWR or Ampeg 4X10, at about half the cost. They are beautiful cabinets, and built solidly…they have withstood the rigors of the road with grace. I am using two cabinets that weigh under 50 lbs each, yet I sound better and louder than with any 8X10 cabinet I have ever used.

The bass response is beautiful and solid, and the highs are sweet and silky. I augment the mids with a Polytone Mini Brute, which I use as a near-field monitor for my stage sound. The 2X12 cabinet rivals any house system subwoofer that I have played through, and often I stand in the hall, listening to a bass loop, and think it sounds better and more rich coming off the stage than through the subs.

Jorg Schroeder is immediately accessible for any concerns or problems you might have, and when you call the number on his site, he actually answers the phone himself. When I blew one of the cones (through no fault of his), he shipped me out a replacement cone next day air at no cost to me. This is one of the best companies I have ever worked with, and Jorg has set the standard for quality workmanship at an economical price.
