Pros: great jazz tone!
Cons: could\'nt reach the last fret comfortably and a bit heavy.

I\'ve had a few high end basses, however, the Ken Smith kicked butt for the price and sent those guys into their cases!
I\'ve been a pro for over 20 years and it\'s the only bass I bring on the road, now.Other bassist\'s have come up and said,\"What was that you were playing?\", after they just got through bragging about their $2000-$6000 basses. They could\'nt believe it and had never heard of KSD.
I highly recommend jazz bass players to check this bass out first.It\'s price friendly and it sounds great live and in the studio.
I hope they change the design so that the last fret is a little bit easier to reach. Other than that, I will continue to keep my KSD as my first choice!

Cons: electronics

Incredible sound for the price, now I use it in my shows and tours, eveybody ask me how much the price of that \"incredible bass\" and they not believe me when I tell the price, first choice for me, in Spain they are getting to know this bass as a killer and king in price and sound, exelent work KSD.

Pros: Constuction , looks , sound
Cons: weight

I bought my KSD 70\'s J-5 from Low Down Sound on ebay. I have been absolutely blown away by this axe. My KSD has Fender Am. Dlx pups and preamp retrofitted on it so I\'m assuming that is why it sounds so good having read other reviews on this bass and the complaints about the OEM e.q. I like the 35\" scale and the tight B string. I highly recommend this insturment for any style of music. The 1 con I have is that it is heavy, but thats a price I\'m willing to pay.

Pros: Cheap, well built, excellent buy for the money
Cons: Ka-rappy on board Pre- amp

Okay...let me preface this by saying, i have never been a jazz bass Guy, let alone a fender bass guy. This 705 is the first Jazz bass Ive ever owned that I've liked. As stated, I traded a Fender Geddy lee signature bass in for this one in Philly, and it was the best move I've ever made. I could not get a sound i liked outta that Geddy bass, Put in Duncan Quarter Pounders, still didnt help. So, I find two different 705's in the philly area, and go a-huntin. The first one was at 8th street(?) music. brandy new. Tried it.....it sucked. B string was un-usable, preamp was lack luster. Then I go to another music shop outside the city ( some italian name) Well, they pull down a used 705 with a SADOWSKY PREAMP INSTALLED!! Holy crap, what a difference. It took all 0f 10 seconds to say I'll take it. I have since put a Badass V bass bridge on it and it smokes. It has replaced my 2 ton spector as my main bass. I am now selling the Spector (great sound..way too heavy), and have absolutely fallen in love with this 705. If you buy one, install the Sadowsky preamp, and you'll have a $800 bass that sounds like a $2000 sadowsky.

Pros: Sound, feel
Cons: Heavy

I've had my proto J 5 string for over a year now and it's my main axe. It records great; much easier to get a great sound than my musicman stngray 5 (yes, it's true) and I gig with it all the time without a backup. It's quite a heavy bass and I had to get a special gig bag from Broolyn Gear because of its length but I highly recommend this bass. (no, I haven't done any mods and I don't plan on doing any)

Pros: playability resonance unplugged
Cons: preamp, front pickup location wrong so Jazz bass tone not there

I ordered this bass sight unseen based on the reviews.I'm surprized that nobody seems to have noticed that the front pickup is in the wrong location to get the killer Jazz slap tone.I routed out the pickup cavity and moved the pickup forward 3/4 of an inch and what a difference!
The pickups are fine but I need humcancelling ones so I bought a set of Feder CSNs.The preamp is crap and it is going to be replaced with a Noll 2 band model. The bridge was changed out to a quickrelease one.The neckpocket will be routed out a little deeper to reduce the extreme string angle and to bring the strings closer to the body.I'll have a new white mother of toilet seat pickguard made and I'm going to get knobs from Sadowsky.I might even shve the neck down jut a bit.
This bass has huge potential but you have to spend some extra money to get it to come alive.
I'm actually enjoying the process and by the time I'm done this bass will have cost me 1200.- maybe and it is going to be worth every penny!

Pros: Excellent bass- sound between Passif and actif
Cons: weight

I have this bass now for several month
Totaly other sound than my SR505
Not so dark and barky.
I like the pallet of sounds I get out of this bass
Mostley I play this way
-> When I want the Pbass: Passif, and extra bass on my SVT.
-> For slapping, Actif, and neutral treble and bass on the guitar
-> J style, 3/4 bass and treble on neutral.

The great pro of this bass is the great difference in sound between the actif en passif.

And the small problem with the preamp (little other sound on the max.) was solved in 15 min. and cost 1Euro! so.........
So no more difference sound when i turn the volume up or down

Great bass!!!
