Pros: 24 frets, active electronics, killer finish, tuners, pick ups
Cons: Bridge

When I first saw this bass I had to try it cause I loved the finish (mine is Cherryburst) but I bought it cause it has so much wrapped up in one package.

The electronics are up to standard and allow for many different tones to be dialed in. The sound is very crisp and warm. A single 9 volt battery is all you need and its eay to remove for when it needs to be changed.

The Bass Line pickups are freakin\' sweet. The have the poles set down into the pick up itself so you don\'t get that annoying sound of the strings hitting the poles. I have never seen this on any othe rpickup before but from what I can tell the sound is not affected.

The tuners are great. Can\'t go wrong woth Hipshots. Need I say more?

The only complaint I have is with the bridge. They went to far to make this bass different and great and just slapped a stock MIA Bridge on it. I personally would have loved to see a Badass II or even a Badass III on there.

Pros: 24 fretboard, nob extensions, body interface
Cons: nob feedback

...this unregistered user from nova scotia is obviously not a bass player, and if he is, he shouldn't be. Not to mention, he/she is pretty retarded...

And yes, I DO have this bass and it is great. I do agree the nob extensions are very handy along with the 24 fretboard. Although the tone extension can give some minor feedback, I'd recommend this to anybody.

Pros: Great Tone, 2 Octave Neck, Nice Finish
Cons: Poorly setup from factory, bad input jack

When I purchased this bass it was due to the fact that the guitar center I shop at had sold a Deluxe Mexican I had reserved.

When I first saw it as they took it out of the box It looked very nice but when i first plugged in it had fret buzz like you wouldnt believe.

They told me to come back the next day for it and when I did they had fixed all the fret buzz and it played beatifully.

I have heard complaints about the bridge as well from some people but I have only played on this and a Standard so my knowledge of non-stock bridges is none. Although when I played the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass I loved the action so I might replace the bridge eventually.

My only real complaint is the input jack started failing after about a month. This was no big deal I took it to the guitar doc and after a day he had all the wiring fixed back up for a small fee and I havent had problems since.

All in all a solid bass.

Pros: 24 frets, hipshot tuners, nice finish
Cons: crapy fret work, cheap pre-amp

I bought this bass new, as a backup. I replaced the cheap pre-amp with a Seymour Duncan STC3 pre-amp and I replaced the quarter pounders with duncan lighting rods. I had to have the frets milled and crowned due to poor the Korean workmanship. After all this work was done , I still was unhappy with this bass and sold it. Note: Good beginner bass, but that's about it.

Pros: It looks nice, its great quality, nice pick-ups, great feel (as youll find on all fender instuments), and a very nice bridge.
Cons: buzzing, alot of it, common in non-handmade fender instuments. and the frets are a bit big.

TRY THIS INSTRUMENT BEFOR YOU BUY IT. thats very important with any istument, but more so with this one. its an istument that comes straight out of korea, and its machine built, so its not grade A++ like fender hand built instuments, like the American series. so this instument seems to be an aquired taste for alot of people. and i think i know why.. its the feel. the neck feels light, and cheep, a great contrast to the body of the bass. wich is heavy and toped with quilted maple. so the feel is a little off. another thing... buzzing. alot of fender instuments buzz. it can usualy be worked out by turinging the knobs back and forth but it dosent seem to work for long with this bass. also, dont buy this online, even if you tryed it in a store.FedEx is the usual deliverer for musicians friend, and music 123. and i dont know whether its just the guy that comes around here, but hes prty violent with packeges. and plus, usualy when you buy stuff from local stores, you can score som free stuff, like i did, i got a HUGE discount on a Fender Deluxe Hardshell case and a prty hefty discount on the bass too. so get out there, try this bad boy, and when you buy it, you might wana take it to a local service shop to have the buzzing checked out.

if you have any questions about this bass you can email me at musicmansterling17@yahoo.com and i will anwser your question to the best of my ability.

good luck!

Pros: Tone flexibility and extra features
Cons: poor electronics

I loved the way it looks felt and sounded however!! I had to return two in a row because 1. dead pickup then 2. dead preamp.
Woundn't be a bad bass if you gut it and replace all the innards except maybe the pots.
I now have a USA passive J.

Pros: lots of growl, active pre amp w/3-band eq, 24 fret neck, Basslines
Cons: Fret work could be better, Pre amp went bad on my first one

I bought this bass after trying one out at a GC. I was shopping for a 24 fret bass to replace my Ibanez SRX300 and came across one of these in Tobacco Burst. I played it though a couple of different cabs & heads and was impressed with the tones I could get out of it so I ordered one in Cherryburst.

The tone is very growly. It's got a typical j-bass tone but with a modern sort of spin to it. Not a vintage vibe at all but still a j-bass tone. I' hope that makes sense...It's got that mid range thing going for it like a j-bass should. It also has a mid-cut switch that is there for people who like to slap & pop. It works so I use it every once in a while when I actually get to slap.

The first one I got had the preamp blow out when I replaced the cheap battery. I took it back and ordered another one and have not had a problem with it since. I had heard that Fender had a problem with the early Pre-amps. I called them about it and they denied that there was ever a problem. The guys at GC said they had taken a bunch of them back with blown pre-amps. Hmmmm? I took a chance and ordered a replacement anyway. I have not experineced noise problems pre-amp. I use a Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor with my passsive jazz. I don't bother with it when I use this bass.

The first one I got had a different tint to the Cherryburst color than my current bass. The first bass had a more "reddish" tint to the burst where as this one(my current bass) is more of an "orangish" color...Probably a QC issue but the finish quality isn't bad. Who knows! Maybe the natural tint/stain of the wood caused it...Maybe the guy in the paint booth is color challenged...

The fret work on both of the basses wasn't all that good. I took it to a local shop and had them do a medium/low set up for me and install my usual EB Hybrid Slinky's. After the set up and cleaninig up of the frets I have been very happy with it. As for the fit & finish of the rest of the bass...pretty good considering it's placement in the market. No better or worse than any other bass that retails for $699.00 @ GC (I paid $538.75 out the door with an SKB-4 case).

The neck is different than a usual Jazz. The two octive neck is the main thing but it feels thinner at the nut then a regular Jazz. The body is slightly smaller over all then my MIM Jazz. Probably to compensate for the 24 fret neck. It doesn't feel unbalanced though and the playablility is fine. No worries there. This bass also has a six screw neck mounting plate and string through body or string through bridge options. Seems pretty sturdy.

The bridge is not the same a MIA Jazz as one reviewer said. It's not like any other Fender bass bridge I have seen. In fact I think it's the same bridge that was used on the discontinued Yamaha BB404 models. Probably leftover from that production run in this particular Korean factory. It doesn't even have the same screw pattern as a typical Fender bridge. Instead of the five screws across the bottom it has four screws. One screwed into the body at each corner. I think it looks a little cheap but I think all Fender bridges seem cheap unless it's a model that comes with a Leo Quann or Hipshot bridge.

After six months of playing this bass I have come to rely on it week after week and have become quite happy with it's performance and reliablility. I have not experienced any failures or QC issues with it. It stays in tune, the neck has not needed to be adjusted yet, and there no electronics issues to report.

Overal it's a decent bass for the money(if you pay below the retail price). It's no MIA Jazz Deluxe...but I'm happy with it.

Pros:
Cons:

well I like this bass because of the sound the board is quick, so I bought the 5 string that was a mistake this is what I feel anytime that you have to put a new bass in the shop more than 1 time then send it back the 5 string was fading in and out the 1st time so I sent it to be repair the second time I took to rehearsal in in the beginging the sound collapse I had to tap on the body and knobs to get it back at that time I turn the volume up so it came in loud so I return it back and bought the mtd kingston 5 string

Pros: After changing the strings and tweaking the setup, this is a great bass!
Cons: Not terribly excited by the stock strings it came with.

Like all other basses I've owned, this one was alright off the shelf, but benefited greatly from a few simple adjustments (and a change of strings). After all was said and done, I love this bass! Hasn't given me any problems... sounds great... plays well... very comfortable.

Pros:
Cons:

I purchased this unit a couple of weeks ago and just love it. I asked my guitar/bass tech if he had encountered any of the issues with the pickups I had read about on the net. He said he had one issue and this was do to the owner inserting the 9v battery incorrectly. I removed mine and agreed that this could happen rather easily if you do not pay attention. With the size of the board on the inside of the unit is would be easy to short out if the current was reversed. So if you own one pay attention to this.

As for the buzzing. I have not purchased one insturment that has not changed when moved from the store of purchase to my basement. They all adjust to the new climate. The third fret on mine buzzed the second day then throughout the whole E string by the third, At the end of the week it settled right back into place.

I love the sound from this bass and the multiple adjusments that you can experiment with on the pickups. I would say its a good deal for the money.

Pros: Good electronics, Ok looks
Cons: Fret Buzz, Horrible Action

I bought this bass new. The factory did absolutely NO setup whatsoever (I don't care what they say). I really can't believe the reviews of people who like this bass. Other than the looks and the electronics, this bass has nothing going for it.

People see the name "Fender" and fawn over it. The truth is, this is a mediocre bass at best, manufactured and assembled in S. Korea by cheap labor. I would have expected more from a brand name like Fender. I've had this bass setup twice already, even took it to a luthier, only to keep having the same annoying fret buzz on the 7th - 10th frets on the A and D string.

The folks writing good reviews for this thing must be working for Fender. I tend to be a realist, you can write "Fender" on a piece of crap; guess what? it's still a piece of crap!
