Pros: Weight, punch, low-end and midrange clarity
Cons: None

I have been on a quest of sorts for the last few years to find the one bass cab that works for me and my sound on the mostly small to medium-sized gigs I work each week. Along the way, I\'ve bought some worthy candidates and tried most of the competion. I\'ve also owned several other non-UL Epifani cabs (still do, in fact).

So right up front, here it is: this is the best stand-alone bass cab I\'ve ever owned/used/heard. Obviously, that statement takes into consideration what I want to hear, my style of playing and the music I play (rock, jazz, country, jamband, etc.).

The thing I like most about the cab (besides the light weight which I love), is the clarity it offers while still remaining solid on the bottom. Sometimes, midrange clarity comes at the expense of low-end slam. This one seems to have it all.

Here\'s a summary of gigs and gear used that formed my opinion of this cab:

1. Indoors, medium sized room, raised wooden stage in a community center. Amp was the Walter Woods Ultra.

2. Outdoors, backyard private party on a concrete slab, open area. Amp as above.

3. Outdoors, astro-turf stage in front of a brick wall. Amp as above.

4. Indoors, small bar/club with raised wooden stage. Amp as above.

I use 3 or 4 custom Hanewinckel basses, all with active electronics, either 4, 5 or 6 strings, typically. Bartolini pickups, both single coil and humbuckers. I also use an X-Wire wireless setup and I always sit the cab on a Gramma pad.

SONICS
-------

No boominess whatsoever. Clean and clear articulation in all registers. Very efficient cab, as can be seen by the stats above and that makes for a loud cab. The Woods causes this thing to kick a LOT with very little gain boost. I seldom turn the Woods up much past 3 on the master volume.

The midrange is present and articulate as can be. Upper register double and triple stops speak with no blurring or loss of detail. The low-end kicks like a mule and offers a palpable vibration to the floor and stage that can be easily felt.

The top end is clean as a whistle, neither overally bright or muted. Slapped and especially popped notes leap out of this cab nicely.

Perhaps most importantly, the cab cuts through the mix like a champ. I\'ve went out into the crowd numerous times and the bass carries just like it\'s supposed to! I seldom get PA support these days so I need a cab that will carry my sound alone. This one does.

COMPARISONS
--------------

* Bergantino HT322

A very flat, responsive cab that is way heavier and bulkier to move. It\'s also not nearly as punchy but offers a top-end that is on a par if not a little better than the Epifani. Low-end on the 322 can be massive, too but requires a bit of EQ\'ing to hear properly close in. The Bergie is also WAY less efficient and sucks amp power. As result it seems to sound a lot better with 1500 watts or more and never seemed the best match with my preferred amp, the Woods. (The Crest power amp Jim B. recommends sounds great with this cab, which I still own, btw)

* Accugroove Whappo Jr.

Nice low end and a really thick low-mid character in a light cab. Midrange is rather complex but this cab is nowhere near as punchy as the Epifani and invididual note articulation is not as good. The top end on the AG is muted by comparison, too. Although I bought this cab new and paid a LOT for it, I sold it when I got the Epifani. Tell you anything?

SUMMARY
---------

There may be better bass cabs out there for an old guy like me who doesn\'t want to lift much and likes his sound, well, like he likes it. But I haven\'t found one...except this one.

Pros: Articulate, light and very loud.
Cons: NONE

Hands down, The nicest cab I have ever owned. This thing is light (a little over 50lbs) and is very clear in all frequencies from high to low. I really cant add much to what Boogie has already said. Light, clean and loud; It doesnt get better than this (IMHO).

My only gripe about it is; It would be nice to have it wrapped in tolex instead of rat furr. But, I am willing to deal with that for the tone this thing oozes out.

Pros: Light, loud, deep
Cons: Weak in the low mids; best when run clean

Overall, a great cab at a great weight. The reason I've marked it down is because the tone doesn't work well for me: I like low mid punch and growl, but this cab favors nasal high mids. The UL410 is nice and deep, especially with five string, but in my experience the lack of low mids causes the low bass to lose definition in a live setting. Obviously if you get your punch from high mids then this cab should work for you.

Another minus was given because this cab sounds best when run clean. I've been working with this cab for months now and can't get it to sound good even with mild overdrive from my various preamps: SWR Interstellar Overdrive, SansAmp RBI, Ampeg SVP-Pro, Read Purity. So, I wouldn't recommend this cab to those who like vintage or gritty/gnarly/aggressive rock tones.

Minor con: I'm spoiled by the ~3" casters on my Bergantino cabs. The ~2" casters on the Epifani UL410 get hung up more easily on small obstacles.

Minor pro: Epifani makes a killer padded amp cover... even has a wraparound velcro strap to keep the cover from sliding off if the cab is being transported on its side.

P.S. My cab is a Series I. The newer cabs are Series II. Please search in TalkBass Amps forum for the difference between them; I haven't yet heard a Series II.

Pros: DEEEP,rich Low end,clarity,weighs NOTHING.. one hand-lift!
Cons: expensive, but if u want the best..it'll cost ya!

These cabinets are EXTREMELY popular on TB right now,well..for about a year now, actually.
there are "trendy" cabs, heads that come and go,Remember the Schroeder 1212 light?..it was the big thing a little while ago.
Anyway,I wanted a top end cab to go with my little mrk II head(500 wts)I considered the markbass cab, same price, same weight,wattage,basically..but the mark went down to 36 hz,when the epifani was 40,i think.
I chose the Epi UL410,bought it mint, used, with an epifani padded over(which rules..looks watertight, padded, nice looking and has velcro to go beneath the cab to secure it on tightly)

I chose the ul410 because i had to see what all the hype was about,it had a reputation as being"the best"
folks who could buy anything had epifani UL410's or Bergantino
NV610's(which was supposedly the more "vintage" of the two, more like an ampeg 8x10)

It is VERY light,56 lbs,i think? half the weight of my previous
4x10's.You can lift it up into a cab with one hand,THAT light.

THE TONE..very clear low,hi,mids..every freq. was there i think..no extreme gaps anywhere,I got some richhhh lows, the low end is deep and soulful, this cab may be the most efficient 410 there is. It's SO powerful, guys who used a 15 or an 18" below their 4x10's will finally give it up,I did exactly that, actually.
Buy it, if u hate it,someone on Tb will buy it in a flash, but u will love it.A bit modern,tight,hi-fi..but with a good head and bass, you cab get sustainy, rubbery, vintage grooves.get one used,$1150-1200 is alot for any speaker cabinet,in my book.

BUY THIS! it'll solve all your speaker problems, they suggest up to 2000 watts, and it'll handle it..

Pros: Light, efficient, can really project loud bass
Cons: Seemed a bit thin in the low mids, glassy highs

Great on the back. Can really fill a large room up with a lot of bass volume. Super efficient, my 500W head pushed out a tone of volume into the 8ohm UL410. A bit shy on the lower mids but still had a huge bass sound. The tweeter tended to be a bit sharp sounding to my ears. I found it to be a bit boomey at times below 100htz.

So, depending on what sound you are looking for, this could be an excellent cab for your bass playing needs. Loudness for weight, this cab must be one the best.
