Pros:

So much versatility and tone range..
|
|
Cons:
|
No eq on the passive electronics. (not an issue)

I've used this thing for around a year now, and it's been good to me. Other than it not having been fixed or anything for the last 10 months, it works really awesome
The tone is great. The range is enormous, from the humbucker to the j99's, there's an infinite range of ways to play. Now add the HB splitter and the active/passive knob... infinite i tell ya. There's a 3 band eq with the active electronics, but not the passive... the only downside in my opinion. Slap some DR's on this baby, and sounds great.
Also, it was a definite steal for me since i got it used in perfect condition from a friend for $400 when it's original price would be somewhere around $1000. But even with its price, it's a good buy. If anyone wants to get a fully customed bass, but is a bit short on money, these are probably the best custom basses for this price.
There's also a 4 and 6 string version of this model. Great stuff

i have a Carvin LB75F (fretless). i think it's a great bass. i bought mine used and it's from around 1996. even 10 years later the bass is flawless.
my baby has H50N stacked humbuckers (i think...). they are alright, they just took a little time to find the right sound i wanted out of them, but once i found it it was freaking awesome.
the neck is super. it's fast and pretty thin for a 5er. i have a lined ebony board and it's strung with rotosound flats.
mine also has a flamed maple top. it's a pretty sweet piece of wood. Carvin tends to have some very nice top woods.
i would definately recommend a Carvin for those who have enough money. it's a great value both new and used (especially used).

resale is the only thing I can think of

I have had the Carvin LB75 5 string for about 5 years now. I love this bass. I played it primarily in a jamband, so I used it to play everything from reggae, ska, punk, bluegrass, rock, blues, to dub reggae. It's a very versatile bass with a lot of dialable sounds. I actually played it clean 90% of the time. The craftsman ship on this bass is excellent, everything from the quality of the wood, to the pickups. I have a LB70 4 banger that I bought in 1990 too. Both of these guitars have had a lot of play. The only drawback when buying a Carvin is resale. Not sure what the deal is, perhaps because they are such a good deal new, but the resale on Carvins are not good (if you're the seller) so if you buy a Carvin most likely you'll never get rid of it. For me it wasn't worth selling it when I moved over to a Warwick Corvette $$. I still pull out the Carvin every so often when I'm going to play a gig. Especially if it's going to be a jam. If you're considering a bass in the 1k range, definitely give Carvin a look.

My LB 75 is by far the best bass I have owned, setting a Custom Warwick and a Frankenstein Fender P on the sidelines. The 5th string B is very deep and commands respect. With active EQ you have a wide range of sound, not sure the passive works as well. Neck and fret board are very comfortable and easy to play, no feeling of fighting strings. I play this for Church, rock, harder rock (play with young kids, their cute!) and this is the best Blues sound I have ever heard. How Blue Can you get ask a Carvin. The question is if something happened to this bass would I replace it? YES! I am contemplating custom ordering a new factory built Carvin. I hope I convinced one person to take a chance and buy a Carvin.

Carvin LB75 2001, Dark Walnut wings hard maple neck thru, beautiful ebony frettboard with active. bought this used about 2 moths ago and it quickly became my pride and joy. Primarily play metal / hardcore and this bass is perfect for the job. The tone is truly crushing and crisp, punchy highs thunderous and clear lows.
This is the first Carvin I have ever played and I am a true fan of them. I intend on getting another Carvin (probably a 6er) as soon a finances allow.
Bottom line, I have spent much more on Basses that were "pro quality", but this is simply my favorite bass I have ever owned.

I adore my LB 75. I'll never get rid of it. I have standard P with SD BassLines in it, a Yamaha Fretless nd the LB75 I love all my basses but the LB is maybe the most versatile. I love it. I may look into a fretless version soon...

Heavy(because it is made of walnut)

This Bass is probably the only bass you could ever need! I can literally play any style of music with it! From Jazz to Metal you can a tone for anything! The walnut body gives it a nice growl and deep lows, but it is very heavy. I got this as my first real bass, because before I got it all I had was a $100 Jazz bass copy that is kind of crap. I will probably order another fretless version sometime in the future as well.

I bought my 1st LB75 in 1999. Koa wood finish. Loved it so much ordered another but in white finish with the HB2 option. They have retired my P and J bass. Absolutely awesome sounds through any amp i've tried but I either use my Carvin head and 4-10's or my Mesa 400+ and the four tens although I do have an 18 bottom.
