Description: I put a set of these on my spector and they put out serious tone. I wanted to try out a set of flatwounds since rounds were putting out such bright tone with my bass. I used DR's for years, and I can honestly say I will never use them again, I would highly recommend these to any one out there.

Pros:
Cons: Dull and flaccid

I purchased a set of these in long scale 45 -100 gauge to try on a Dean Stylist archtop semi-acoustic. It was my first experience of using d'Addario strings.

Straight out of the packet, I couldn't help noticing a certain uneven-ness to the windings, which got worse as they neared the ball end. Then I saw that something was very wrong with the D string. About 10 inches in from the bridge, it suddenly stepped down in diameter, and when tightened, was incapable of creating a pure note.

Even without this manufacturing flaw, however, I found these strings deeply unimpressive. Instead of the warm, full sound I had been expecting, they proved flabby, dry and characterless.

In a way, the faulty string proved a blessing in disguise: it enabled me to return the godawful things to the retailer and get a full refund!

Pros: Play smoothe, more mellow lows, like butta
Cons: Hard to find

I can report that my experience with D'Addario Chromes has been nothing less than stellar. As my username implies, though, I am old school. I've really never liked round wound strings. I even tried half-rounds and I keep coming back to flats. I have Chromes on my Jazz (kind of a contradiction in terms, huh?) and GHS flats on my Godin. They produce a lot less string noise and give me a much richer sound - actually making me sound better (smoother) than I really am. The GHS's on my Godin were about half the price of the Chromes, so when the Chromes go south, I'll likely replace them with GHS's, since I like them as well.

Pros: nice flat's with some brightness. No twang
Cons: None

Well I had a set of pyramid flat's on but the string balance was poor. Now all strings are evenly loud and there is a nice top end zing to them that I'm not used to in flat's. They stay in tune after stretching no issues.

Pros: Feel amazing on your fingers, so much fun to slide,
Cons: expensive, take long to dull down.

I recently purchased my third set of Chromes. Through some string switching, I've had Chromes on an Ibanez GSR200, Squier Affinity Jazz V and Precision, and a Fender BG-31 ABG. These strings have sounded fantastic on all of my basses!! I highly recommend them! They start out really bright but after two weeks or so they break in nicely. Go out and get these strings!
