Pros: Good tone quality, low noise, many amps in one, versital, recording
Cons: Very Low output signal,

I have owned a BNX3, and many effects pedals. I worked in a music store for a few years and ran it for a couple.

Also I have owned (or used more than 10 times) the following equipment.
Ampeg SVP PRO,
Ameg SVT4 PRO
Eden navigator
Eden 550
Genz benz 1200
Genz benz 210 combo
Fender 115
peavey TNT 115
Harkey 3500 head
ampeg SVT CL
Avalon U5
SWR grand prix
MESA 400+

In a live situation or recording with other instruments you can get the sound of any of the amps I have played. Plus you can add effects and stomp boxes. If you are playing alone and unfamiliar with the POD XT LIVE you may think it sounds funny for one reason or another. After some time with it you can figure out how it is working with your rig and set it correctly. I have to turn the tweeter adn mid speaker down on my Acme 210 cabs with the line 6 where I have them full on with other preamps/amps.

For around $300 this is much better than carrying an old $1200 ampeg tube amp for dirt, and another $1200 amp for clean, and then $500 in pedals.

I would recommend this to anyone who plays more than one style of music.

Its output is very low, and the volume pedal minimum function does not operate well. I can not get a full volume out of my QSC and in comparison the output of my bass alone is louder than its highest output.

I only use 3 amps... however I have different presets for different songs with effects/timed delays to fit each song while keeping the same amp tone.

Pros: Well-rounded tones, good stomps, etc.
Cons: Not enough amp/cab options, not able to double up on stomps on one patch

Overall, the xtLive is a really good product. However, the inability for me to use multiple stomps on any one patch really bugs me. Also, the amps are somewhat limited and not always true to the originals they are modeled after. However, I would still recommend it.

Pros: multiple amp/cab simulation options, servicable effects
Cons: synth models are harsh, is easier to edit using line 6 edit software than the controls on the xt itself

lets cut to the chase here

i use my xt live connecting to the power amp send and return on my peavey max700 head. this places it after the head preamp but before the amp. i set everything flat on the peavey and use the xt for all tone shaping (for the most part). the head is pushing two peavey 410tvx cabs and one avatar 210 cab.

the default patches are take it or leave it depending upon your taste. i initially set out to turn off all amp and cab simulations and wanted to simply go with the effects, which is/was a chore because you cannot do this globally. however i have come to the conclusion that set up properly those models can serve great use.

you have to make sure you are telling the xt what you are doing with it. there are amp/line level settings out, voicings that are configured for cabs w/o horns, with horns, with or w/o eq... and the input has a pad to protect the unit against too high a signal coming into it. on top of this there is a variable output knob on the back (its small and awkward to reach for if you are bending over and its dark and you cant see so make sure this is set how you need it before you start playing)

the free to download line 6 edit software makes tweaking this unit a breeze. you are even more in luck if you have a mouse with the middle wheel as this will quickly allow you to set levels. with a little time sitting down and going thru all your amp and cab models you quickly can find those tones to please you. the stomp and mod options run from great to eh maybe so so (and those prob because i havent spent time on figuring out what makes them sound better). in fact once you get the hang of the software (and you will quickly) changes can be made and saved immediately. you can even save settings "off line" in a directory to be recalled about as quickly as recalling those that are 'on the xt' itself. another terrific feature is the online patch library. there are litterally thousands available from other users that you can search out by band, player, amp model used and so forth. they download and appear in the edit software instantaneously (with my wifi cable anyway)... about as fast as save patches and you can immediately hear and adjust them and save if you like either to the xt or to a directory on your computer. Again i cannot stress how simple this all is, how quick it can be done, and the sheer convenience of it.

i am in a three pc classic rock band that plays loud. i can find sounds that fit my style and mood well and that get respect. you will not convince the people who are pre-disposed to not like the modeling technoligy as being sterile or fake, they will like what they like.

yes you can make yourself sound like mud or worse if you are careless about how you go about it. thats your fault, not the xt. you can get lost if you allow yourself with the literally endless combinations... better save your defaults separately if you want to get back to where you were, or if worse comes to worse resetting to the factory defaults is basically a three step process too so you can 'come home'. make sure you save your good patches on the computer just in case.

i find it well worth the time and effort. set up to play is as simple as plugging in 2 cables and my laptop to it via the supplied usb cable and i am good to go. or save the patches as you wish on the xt and forgo the laptop for the gig... i just like having it there litterally as a part of my rig. thats me thou.

ive not recorded with it yet (not done any real recording at all actually) so i cannot comment to it.

so i wholeheartedly recommend it if you have any inclination towards wanting one. plunking around at the store really doesnt tell you how it will work for you so be sure that if you buy you can return it, but i am betting you wont.

Pros: usefull all in one fx board no metal enclosure
Cons: mute function stomp section

hi there ...

I own a basspod xt live for three years now ...
The sound is pretty good and some amps come pretty close.

The stomp section really needs a custom chain of pedals (can't use the same pedal twice ...) the tuner comes handy.

After 2 months of playing the usb port did'nt work anymore (i never tried to fix it though 'cause i don't care).

The mute function is kinda annoying slow which makes it sometimes hard to switch basses really fast if you have to
(i earned some bad looks from the FoH engineer in the past ...)

There is a way to calibrate the volume pedal

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpo...p;postcount=10

i found it once at the line6 forum but couldn't remeber the procedure ... some googling an i found that link above from a fellow talkbasser ...

enjoy ...

Pros: Heaps of customizability, loads of options, great tuner (I have a Drop C bass, and my rack-mount unit struggles), lots of great sounds
Cons: Need to be prepared to put in the time

Pretty decent unit, but only JUST starting to scratch the surface!
