Pros: Great tones, incredible versatility, lightweight body, great setup, Hipshot bridge is a plus
Cons: Very slight neckdive

Bought this bass used on eBay about 2 weeks ago. I was looking for a bass that could help me get a tone similar to that of Stewart Zender on Jamiroquai\'s first three albums, while still being able to get a slap tone that I like and a less nasty fingerstyle tone for jazzy stuff... And this bass fits that description perfectly.

With both pickups blended together 50/50, the bridge pickup set to single-coil mode, and the preamp set flat, I can get an amazing slap tone. Flipping the bridge pickup into dual-coil mode brings out the growl and makes it a bit more nasty. It does the Zender tone incredibly well like this. And when I play jazz I turn the bridge pickup volume down a bit and slightly boost the bass. I find that this gets rid of the nasaly midrange and smooths out the tone. I just love the versatility of this bass!

I prefer USA Bolt-on Spectors over all the other Spectors I\'ve played and owned, for several reasons. First, I\'ve found all the neck-through Spectors I\'ve owned to be much too heavy, whereas this bass is nice and light. I also don\'t care for the necks of the neck-through models; they seem \"sticky\" to me and I find it difficult to move my hand around on them. I also cannot stand the Spector bridges that are used on the neck-through models as well as some of the lower end bolt-ons. The NS-JH5 uses a Hipshot Style-A bridge, which I find much easier to adjust.

I have a difficult time finding bad things to say about this bass, but there are a few small things I can think of. The first is that it has a slight neckdive. It\'s not enough to complain about, but it is noticeable sometimes. I also think it would look better if the piece of neck wood between the end of the fretboard and the neck pickup was finished to match the body on the natural finish models. Mine is slightly lighter than the rest of the body, so it tends to stand out. It is a minor concern, though, and not enough for me to do anything about it.

Overall, this bass is definitely a keeper! That is, of course, until GAS strikes again. :d
