Great solid sound with a wide spectrum. Has "feel". Good Price!

Made in Korea... if that matters.

I was in the market to buy another bass for under a grand. After having tried every bass in every store, I was ready for the musicman stingray or the sterling.
The musicmans had the right punchy slap sound that I was looking for.
The Ibanez basses were great in every aspect but lacked "feel".
The Warwicks were heavy and the necks were too thick...
Most other basses that sounded good were over $1500.
Then I tried the Fender jazz 24. This thing had a great feel, great action (pretty low with no buzz) and awesome sound. It had the musicman sound as well as the fender sound and especially the sound that I was looking for. The slap switch is awesome. The body has quilted maple top and the bass is very well crafted (I was absolutely surprised to find out that it is made in Korea!). It has great wood, seymour duncan 'basslines' active pickups and very decent hardware.
Another bass that I recently bought is absolutely awesome is a Ken Smith BSR5J... and I still love the fender jazz 24. I still haven't played a bass in this price range that is so versatile and fun to play. Guys, you absolutley need to check this one out.

preamp failed in under a year

I bought this bass in june 2006. I was looking to upgrade frome my squire standard jazz bass (finally) and shopped around agood bit. The other basses I tried out and considerd were the marcus miller sig jazz bass, a few mim jazz basses and a couple different lakland basses. All were great and would love to own them all, but this bass really stuck out. Mainly due to the extended neck and slap switch. And of course it is absolutly beutiful. It has a great and warm tone.
But after about 9 months the seymore duncan preamp took a crap. Fender was so slow on getting the replacement preamp out and I wsnt very happy with that. So I just had a bartolini preamp installed at bass emporium with some custom wiring to make it one of a kind. Before you had aswitch that you could completly cut the mids. Now I have high mids, mid mids andlow mids. Its the perfect bass.
I recomend the bass, but plan on doing some upgrades to it. I bought it at guitar center. I shopped around on price via internet and found it super cheap somewhere and you know how GC is so they matched it. I love sticking it to the man.
GREAT INVESTMENT
