    Good afternoon TBers!

I am looking to sell my 1953 Benedikt Lang five-string.

It is an incredible 5/8 bass with a lot of tone and volume for its size. I had a Gotz endpin installed. It is currently set up with a low B.

    Here are the measurements:

    Scale length - 40"
    Upper bout (widest) - 19 1/4"
    Waist (narrowest) - 14 1/2"
    Lower bout (widest) - 26"
Body length (not including heel or endpin)- 41"
Bass height (not including endpin) - 79"
    Rib Depth - 8 5/8"

This bass has been relocated to David Gage in Manhattan, so you're welcome to check it out there!

Out of my price range, but I sure would like to see the rest of the bass! I like the fact that it's a 5er and a 5/8ths. Nice.

I put up a full picture of the bass. It was the only one that I had. :/ I'll get some new pictures up soon. :) Thanks again, MTB!

How does it sound unamplified? For orchestral work? Thanks
    Louis

    PS: Dimensions? String Length? Thanks

    Hi Louis!

    Thanks for the questions!

The unamplified sound is tops! It's really rich with a wholly present lowend. Not as boomy as larger basses, though. I think that gives you an idea about how it might fare in an orchestra setting. It doesn't lack in volume or presence, but it doesn't have quite as much boom as its larger counterparts.

Here is the only recording I could find of it: http://headwomb.bandcamp.com/track/song-from-the-seventh-floor

That was recorded with a large diaphragm Neumann condenser. If I recall correctly, we didn't do much (if any) processing on the signal.

I've been busy, so I haven't had a chance to check until now, but here's what I got for dimensions:

    Scale length - 40"
    Upper bout (widest) - 19 1/4"
    Waist (narrowest) - 14 1/2"
    Lower bout (widest) - 26"
Body length (not including heel or endpin)- 41"
Bass height (not including endpin) - 79"

I keep coming back to look at this thing.

    Beautiful bump.

Very nice tone as well. Are you doing any of the Arco voices as well ? Just my cup of tea. 5/8 and low B. I come from EBG and have an NS EUB and just was spoiled by my buddy with 6 months loan of his jazz setup 54 Epiphone upright that I started playing every week at church. They loved it. I miss it. Now I'm Jonesing for an upright of my own.

I did not do any of the arco voices on that! Here's a rough mix of something that I'm working on right now. In the beginning you can hear some col legno on top of regular arco. at about 59 seconds you can hear the open low b very clearly. then it goes to pizz, back to arco for a sec, and back to pizz. I am the only viol family instrument on this recording, but I did play the guitar swells! ;)

6 months of an upright! I can understand how you're heartbroken!

Bump! This bass is still for sale! I've been on tour, and then sick in the hospital for some time, but I'm back and need to move this thing! Hit me up!
