DR strings. their standard long scale string have a 38" wrap length, so they'll fit either top-load or (some) string-thru-body bridges on 35" scale basses.

I think GHS long scale is 38" also.
Just thread a string thru, put a piece of tape around it at the tuner side of the nut, then remove it and measure from the ball to the tape to know what length you need for the 'speaking length'.

I second DR strings. I tried A bunch of strings; I just keep going back to DR's. DR are my number one Round wound strings, but that's just my opinion. If your looking for flats I Recommend the thomastik-infeld.

Those have "technically" been discontinued, which is why you only find the 4 string available.

However, I worked to have them rebranded (because the name was a bit misleading), so they will be available again. They're a nice set.

I want to try Dean Markley SR2000 strings on my 35" Lakland, but all their ads just say light or medium . . . how do I know if they'll fit thru the body?

    I don't think they will fit..but I'm not sure. Here's why I say that...

    As you can see at
    http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Bass-String-Lengths-by-Manufacturer_ep_47-1.html

Markleys are wound to 37.25" and I think you need closer to 38" (like DR) for a Lakland. Plus, I don't think the tapers would be long enough to work through body.

They would work fine strung through bridge though.
