A little love for the Carvin Icon!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Bass Viking, Mar 16, 2014.

  1. I bought my Carvin Icon 8 years ago and I’m still lovin’ it! The SB4000/SB5000 seems to be a lot more popular (the roll call thread is up to Part 8!) I also own an SB5000 but I never warmed up to it, whereas I liked the Icon immediately. There are lots of SB videos on Youtube but not that many of the Icon. Here’s one I just made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnesCYUaAs4&feature=youtu.be

Who else here owns this sometimes overlooked gem?

Nice vid. Roy Vogt used an Icon on his Urban Legend album and it sounds killer, although that probably has more to do with Roy :)

I've always wanted to try an Icon... it would probably be my next Carvin if I needed a new bass. My Carvin LB70 is still going strong more than 12 years later. I'm playing my brand new Zon slightly more often these days, but even that can't knock my Carvin out of the regular rotation even at 3x the price.

  8. That burled maple is hot...I have an LB70 with that top. I'm planning on a Carvin B25 in burl...

I put Rad Single Coils in my Icon 4CW - killer. I have been playing my PB4/J a lot lately - but tonight - thanks to this thread - it is Icon night!!

I LOVE my Icon. Seriously, I fell in love with it from the moment I picked it up. Mine's got wide spacing and is VERY versatile! Excuse the family photo... it's the only one I had handy! :)

Bass Viking: your right thumb plucking technique intrigues me-might have to try that out. Also, cool bass-thanks for the vid!

I love Icons. My next bass is going to be a 5-string Icon in deep green over flame, with blackburst edges, black hardware, and a birdseye board. Some glorious day!

I requested the Bromberg pre but was told can't do. I told them there were a couple for sale in the classifieds a while back that claimed to have it but still no go.

  17. Thanks! My thumb does triple duty: it plucks, mutes, and acts as an anchor. I'll try to post a video of the bass line for Roundabout in which I do alternating strokes with my thumb.

Did they give you a reason why they couldnt do the Bromberg pre in the Icon? Is it some propriety thing only Bromberg models are allowed to have? Also, black stain AND clear back of body, does that mean the back, sides and neck are going to be natural colored and the quilt top is going to be stained black?

Does anyone know if the Icon and LB7X have the same pre?
