I recently had experiences with an Aguilar and a Bartolini preamp. The Aguilar was an OBP-3 that I installed in a bass. The Bartolini is a NTMB-918F.

What I noticed is that the Aguilar seems to have the majority of it's cut/boost in the first few degrees of rotating the eq knobs.

The Bartolini on the other hand, is very subtle cutting/boosting till the eq knobs are almost to the end of their travel where there's a jump to max/min cut or boost.

I was wondering if this difference in taper is a function of the pots that are attached to the preamps or is it the preamps themselves?

    Good question-
these issues have been mentioned numerous times, but no alternatives/ fixes have been shown, other than to switch pre-amps.
Maybe someone knows of remedies (besides all passive).

If both have the capability to boost and cut each frequency band, then they both use linear taper EQ pots. It is uncommon to find audio taper pots with center detents.

So I still don't know what's causing the difference in taper. The pot or the preamp itself?

They both use the same pots, so it has to be the preamp.
