Hello guys.....I was wondering if $1500 for a7/10 condition
1996 walnut 4string was a reasonable price? I've played them and love smaller body, but don't want to get ripped off.....

    Thanks!

    3-piece maple neck

    Ebony fretboard

    Matching flamed walnut headstock veneer

Controls for volume, pan, bass, and treble (x2)

    Alembic MXY4 pickups

All original hardware, including the height-adjustable nut and a drop tuner for the E string

    Gotoh tuners

Numerous finish indentations over the body, most only slightly noticeable at a certain angle

    No scratches through the finish

    Includes original hardshell case

Also includes adjustment tools and strap with Dunlop straplocks

    Nut width: 1-5/8"

    Action at nut: .046"

    Action at 12th fret: .082"

    Relief at 8th fret: .024"

I purchased a 96 on this site for 950.00 that has some wear. I would rate mine as 6.5. Has some missing finish on the top ( where one places finger), the alembic logos
are off the pickups ( worn off), small ding on headstock.
Mine is Bocote and is a nice axe otherwise. I would say
one in mint might fetch 1500.00 one in fair shape any
where from 1,000 to 1200.00. I purchased mine a few
months back after no response on mine. These are nice
basses but not commanding as much as they used to.
    Hope that helps.

Wow $1000-1200! Meanwhile some hunk of garbage 70's j or p bass will command triple that and this bass would smoke a fender any day any time!!!

I have seen these for sale as high as 1800 on ebay but this
might command 1200 maybe a little more. Just a matter
of finding one. It took me a year or more to find mine. I would venture to say this is more like a 8.5 out of ten. They
are nice basses. Make sure to check the neck.

    Cheers.

Well it would be shipped to me with ebay 14 day return period if neck is in bad shape.

But I just cant see the neck being in bad shape for such a quality bass

The pictures look like the frets have lots of wear left. If that is the case, then $1500 is at the top end of it's value. Will you be handling the bass before you buy? If it speaks to you, then find out how far below $1500 the seller will go. Epics are AMAZING basses, and the most economical way to experience Alembic. I have no regrets over my Epic acquisition about 8 years ago. ($1100) Mine is a 96 too. Set neck tone, thinner than typical Alembic finish. I love it.

I own a 1995 5 string and 97 4 string. $1,500 for a 1996 seems about right. The new Epics are over $6,000 and used Epics are usually listed for sale between $1,200 to $2,400 depending on the seller. Average sale price seems to be between $1,400 and $1,800. I sold a 1996 5 string for $1,100 about 10 years ago.

Form the pictures it looks like its in great condition. Same wood as one of mine. They are great sounding and play very well.

You are going to love it. I bought one late last year with about the same wear for $1300. It has quickly become my favorite.

Congratulations! I bought an Orion last year, which shares a lot of the same features as the Epic. Alembic are very different beasts and this is my first one but I'm delighted with mine, hopefully you have a lot of fun with yours too.

Not sure of the year I bought mine, but it was about then. I got mine (6 string fretless) new for about two grand which is what they were until the recent massive price hike. So you did really well on price, coming in at a used price for the old price list.

here's a stupid question.....can I have someone refinish top layer of wood to make it look new again, or is that just ridiculously stupid idea?
