Amazon offers workers $5,000 to quit, but it’s not crazy

Interesting response to employee dissatisfaction. I read this story two days after finding out that a person I know is having their position of 16 years eliminated for an "outsourcing" contractor. They're expected to apply for this contractor, presumably to continue performing their job duties in place of getting severance pay, and with different pay, benefits, no seniority, and no guarantees of future employment.

It's nice that some employers are appreciating the importance of worker satisfaction, even while others are trying to penny pinch at the expense of morale.

They certainly have a reasonable position. All workers should live at the whims of employers because what's best for the minority of the population that are business owners is rationally the best for that majority of the rest of us who are subject to the will of those business owners.

Brilliant way to weed out unhappy workers.

Agreed. They've put a dollar figure on the value that unhappy employees will cause to their business, not only directly by giving customers less than ideal products/service but also in reducing the morale of coworkers.

So do I. All kinds of upside to Amazon for every employee who accepts the buyout.

Would any of you accept this offer if your current employer offered it to you when your next return to work? I wouldn't. I like my job.

I am not a big fan of the job I landed in Phoenix. While it's in the same field I've worked in for years, the job is markedly different from what I've done for most of my career. That being said, I wouldn't take the offer flat out, but I'd gladly work to find a new job, then accept the $5k as a severance when I landed a better job! :)
