Under Loud's new ownership, Ampeg switched to a different s/n system in 2008:

The digit after the year is decoded as follows, per Hodgy at Ampeg:

"...our most recent date codes do a letter for every 2 week period, so A= Jan 1-15, B= Jan 16-31, etc."

My recently arrived PF350 has the number "0" as the 12th digit in the serial number. The only letters that would make any sense in that coding would be the 9th and 10th, which are "F" and "R". Which would mean mine was built in september 2013. But mine is a European model, with 15 digits in the serial number.

Look at it this way: String of numbers indicating the item (or actual item, like "SVT7PRO")----> then 4 letters, indicating place of manufacture (1st 2 letters) followed by year and month (2nd 2 letters)---->the number "off the line".
It's not necessarily always going to 16 digits, or 17 digits, or even 12 digits (as in the HB-15N. It just happened to be that many digits the day that they made that graphic (wrong or not!).
So, semi-official word is: 3rd letter from the left of the group of 4 letters after the model number but before the 4 (or 3) serialized number is the year.
I hope this is extremely confusing. I mean, not confusing at all.

Confusing enough! My brain doesn't half hurt trying to follow the goings on of serial number nomenclature :p

    Yup!
Just be thankful that we publish our nomenclature at all, many companies do not, and as most of you that have had some experience with 70's era Ampegs, you know that during that time, it was all "serial number, Schmerial number".
