    My .02?

    • Exclude stranger-operated daycare centres when planning one's childcare needs in advance.
    • At the very least thoroughly vet any daycare centre that one is considering and listen to your gut.

That is definitely one of the worst news stories I've ever read. 'Worst' as in extremely poorly written.

    This tells nothing.
    What happened?
    Why did it happen?

For all we know, some stranger could have busted in, tried to steal the baby, and dropped it.

    It reads like propaganda.

I don't know anything about infants but can a 14 month old really read, enjoy the pleasures of youtube?

I read about this a few days ago, and the article I read was equally void of what actually happened.

If you can't properly care for your children. Don't have them. That would be too much to ask though, wouldn't it?

Exactly. Real reporters know to get the who, what, why, where, when.
This told us nothing about how the death occurred.

Possibly. My daughter's vocabulary was at least 60 words at 14 months. By the time she was 3, she was complaining that her computer was too slow.

Anyway, I'd be leery of daycare, too. My daughter was in daycare starting at 6 weeks. The woman was a long-time friend of my wife's parents. She only took care of babies under 18 months old. She was fantastic. We never felt uncomfortable leaving our daughter with her. I don't know what we would have done without her. There are just too many horror stories out there, and I would have been leery of leaving such a tiny baby with a stranger.

I personally don't view the circumstances of her death as court proceedings. If they can publish the "events" at the house, then why not the details of the death?
