    Trying to make a table of the basic construction of popular string sets.

    Code:
    "nps" = nickel plated steel
    "ss" = stainless steel
                    core    wind
    ---------------------------------------
    DM sr2000       ?       ss      3 taper
    D'Add xl nickel hex     nps
    Roto swing      hex
    GHS boomers     hex?    nps
    dr low rider    hex     nps
    dr high beam    round   ss
    fender 8250 round nps 1 taper
    EB slinky       round

    Some conflicting information out there.

    DM SR2000 - Hex core.
    GHS Boomers - Hex core.
    DR Lo Riders - Hex core. There are nickelplated and stainless versions.
    Rotosound Swing Bass - Hex core. There are nickelplated and stainless versions.
    Ernie Ball Slinky - Hex core. There are nickelplated and stainless versions and of course, the new Ernie Ball Cobalt which are...cobalt.

    Most manufacturers that use a round core will be very proud to tell you that in their product descriptions because it is unique. Hex core is the industry standard.

    So the only round cores are the Fenders 8250 and the DR high beams, the latter only being available in nickel plated steel?

    I am surprised. To me the Fenders sound very good. But they are available only in one gauge.

    Yes, most strings are hex core.

    DR HiBeams, FatBeams, are round core stainless stee.
    DR LoRiders are hex core stainless steel.
    DR Sunbeams are round core nickels.
    All DR colored/coated strings are round core as well.
