(granted I've only played about 5 gigs so far)

Since I've been getting odd diarrhea spells over the summer, now I usually don't eat anything 2 or 3 hours before going on stage. I'm worried that whatever I eat will upset my stomach. Plus, nerves can get to me and make me have diarrhea even if I'm completely healthy.

    Anyone else practice abstemiousness pre-show?

Nope Always eat dinner before playing.. sometimes pick up something to eat after we're done setting up, or of the place cuts us a deal, something off the menu. And there is always the after gig Taco Bell run. I just love a couple bean burritos after gigging.

I have to eat very light before a gig. Usually like half a turkey sandwich or small salad. I move around too much on stage to eat heavy before a show.

I've learned bass frequencies, a lot of motion and a full belly does not work for me! :p

Uh... if you're having odd diarrhea spells you should probably change your diet or get your guts checked out.

I usually eat a full meal about an hour before show time. I'm talking a big burger, pizza or steak. No salads, nothing healthy. Just tasty goodness.

I am blessedly free of stage nerves, so I don't worry about it either way. I definitely don't like to gig on an empty stomach, though, so if I'm hungry, I go ahead and eat.

I have irritable bowel syndrome (also irritable personality syndrome, but that's another thread). This means frequent bouts of diarrhea and constipation. I have noted that excessive alcohol, spicy foods, and (especially) soy, are not my friends. My point? It can't hurt to try a couple of lifestyle changes for a while and see if they help.

I have diabetes so I always make sure that I have enough to eat before a gig. I usually try to eat about an hour or two before playing. Last night we played two 1 hour sets at a casino. The compensation including a very good night's pay and they fed us. They had a great all you can eat seafood and prime rib buffet. We finished eating at about 7:30 and went on stage at 9.

Always drink one of these when I can before a gig (which I don{t do to much of)
Not just for the energy, but the taste is great, puts me in a good mood and for some reason this stuff does wonders on my throat (I sing as well as play bass)

I will say, I don{t like being stuffed full before performing though.

I make sure that I eat and I like having a beer before going on.

I like to have some fresh fruit, or a salad before a gig. If I'm famished, maybe something a little more substantial, but never a full meal. After the gig I pig out. By then I'm always more than a little hungry--I burn up a fair bit of energy during a gig, cuz I'm pretty active. Oddly, unlike my bandmates, my shirt and face are mostly free of perspiration during a gig, and they move around a lot less than me. Weird.

My preference is to have a meal 3 hours before gig, with something like a banana or an apple 15 minutes before downbeat. Water and a coke onstage.

    Lets see....
Last nite between the first and second sets we had Cuban pork with yellow rice and mango salsa, grilled beef tenderloin and garlic mashed potatoes. Hit the tenderloin twice. This was after about 5 beers while setting up and sound checking. Open bar (free) with all the top shelf stuff.

We do all weddings/private parties and are pretty well world famous for our ability to consume.
    Just sayin:bassist:

I'm usually not myself on stage unless I have had a snickers bar.
