Ok just want to see if I can get some opinions on which is better quality out of the Gotoh GB7's vs Grover 144c tuners.

Well, I'm not a huge fan of the Gotohs and the Grovers appear to be a carbon copy. For a few bucks more, you can snag a set of lic'd (import) Hipshot Ultralites which would be my preference. FTR: this what Roger Sadowsky uses on his Metro series basses. I find them easier to work with setting the desired turning tension. Just my 2 cents.

Have a set of Hipshot Ultralites on my Jack Casady, love them. Always in tune, very smooth winding. Ordered a set of Hipshot for my Fender Jazz bass, as the one's on it are crap. Can't wait to replace them! That's what I would recommend.

I've not had any experience with the Gotoh's but I have a set of the 144c's on one of my basses, they do the job very nicely - stable tuning, lightweight and comfortable turning ratio.
I have always been a bit of a stickler for Grover's, I have some guitars with them that are also great, and a bass from the early 80's that came stock with Grover titans that have lasted quite well. Definitely not lacking in quality, and ebay usually has a set for a good price ;)

I've had Gotoh's break (if they're the mini style). I like the Hipshots as mentioned earlier.
