Belated NBD Report: Sub-Shortscale Acoustic Bass VI :-)

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Temcat, Mar 21, 2014.

  1. Well, nominally, it's a $80 Hohner classical guitar with a set of Savarez lower octave strings. But since it's tuned an octave lower than a guitar, I figure it belongs to the Bass VI family. The standard size for a classical guitar makes it a sub-shortscale bass. And finally, it's acoustic, so here's what I have now: a sub-shortscale acoustic Bass VI.

So far, I'm extremely satisfied. The strings required no modification to install. The nut slot for the 6th string is a tad small, but the string plays and sounds alright as is. The intonation is good, which surprised me, and the volume is larger than I expected. The 5th and 6th strings need to be plucked near the bridge for more even volume. The 1st and 2nd strings already show signs of fret wear, although those may be simply cosmetic. All in all, good purchase! I'm having lots of fun with this instrument.

I know, no pics, no bass, so here it is:
